Transfers rumours

Trouble in Leicestershire.

Paul Burke may have left the Tigers and Geordan Murphy may want out too!

Talk is that Tigers are targeting Mauger and Gibson.

Doubt it is trouble, Last season there was talks about Burke going back to Ireland also talks of murphy joining him have been going from start of season.

TBH Burke was a good assistant backs coach but I don't think he is a backs coach outright.

Also Burke was pushed by sounds of it and Murphy going is just a separate rumour not part of the fissler thing.

Dan Robson -> London Wasps
Charlie Davies -> Gloucester Rugby

...I think we all know who wins out of that one!

That's a Rugby Paper rumour by the way.

I don't get why he'd move to Wasps unless Simpson is leaving - I think he'll be better than Simpson, but he's obviously leaving to get gametime somewhere, and to go to a team with a pretty ****ing good SH seems stupid.

Hopefully just agent money spinning and pressurising Glos into playing him more - keeping Robson should be a higher priority than keeping Hook IMO.

"Everyone can see something special is happening at Wasps..." etc :D
Whilst I say that in jest, the prospective move must be seen very differently by players - very few of whom really give a crap about the clubs geographical origins, and really, just want to be part of something successful. The coventry move may not be palatable to us fans but it could well prove successfull longer term.

I think Robson might already be better than Simpson who unfortunately I feel is overrated because of his decision making and marshalling ability. I think it's abundantly clear why Wasps would want Robson - Charlie Davies is laboriously slow in getting the ball out, or making any decision and Robson is a real prospect.

Also clubs vying for the top (especially ones as injury prone as Wasps) need two top level players in each position.
He'd get more game time at Wasps even if he was 2nd choice, than he does at Gloucester because Laidlaw is so important to them, already, (though if he did move I imagine it'd be full rotation with Simpson, and probably overtake him to be first choice before long).

I like Simpsons but he is more of a highlight reel scrumhalf, I feel - lots of clips of him making huge breaks, or skinning wingers, but like HC says, marshall/general SH play could be much better.

Harlequins are going to announce a short term deal for a FH tomorrow - has SR experience.

No idea who.

'SR experience' means many things. For all we know, they could be bringing in Earl Rose.

I'm looking at the names on the Quins forum. I think they are going to be pretty disappointed.

I'm pretty certain that Quins are at the salary cap. So whoever they sign, it's injury dispensation for Ben Botica. If so, then this new player will have to be on "the same or less" salary and "the same or less" experience as Botica. (Curious as to how they judge whether or not a player is more experienced.) Salary expectations alone, it's not going to be Slade/Anscombe/Quade Cooper/Dan Carter.

Also worth noting that Stuff reported today that Kerr had been linked with Quins. Might just be them guessing as well though.

Slade is a player I've been thinking about as a possible target for Quins for a while. He's a very 'Quins type' player and is in a similar position to Nev was when he moved. That being said, he'll almost certainly be the Crusaders first choice 10 next season and is one injury away from an All Black RWC spot. I mean his form, versatility and baby faced good looks are such that I'm amazed he isn't in the EOYT squad but hey. I guess he is currently in London with the BaBaas and after the Weepu to Welsh signing, I don't know what to expect anymore.

Kerr seems much, much more likely. Especially after the Blues squad announcement. He looks to have been unfortunate and missed his Super Rugby chance. NZ rugby's loss, Quins gain. But as has been pointed out, 'Super Rugby experience' could mean anything. There are dozens of ITM players with a few SR caps. Remember how much London Irish hyped Chris Noaks when they signed him? Quins could be getting Willie Ripia in for all we know!

Someone earlier asked if Botica had been misfiring for us. No, but he has never had enough starting game time to build up any decent form. He may well still be out long term replacement for Nev, which might suggest again that Slade won't be coming.

Heart wants Slade, head suggests Kerr will be the one.
