He's got a British passport apparently - I don't know how that would affect his Irish "project player"/IQ qualification.
Would be a good signing for Harlequins IMO.
Marquee player rule allows clubs to front load contacts.
Interesting... is this against the rules, or a loophole? For example:
A marquee player signs a three year contract worth £900k over the duration.
His salary will be:
Year 1 - £600k
Year 2 - £150k
Year 3 - £150k
In year 1 he is the marquee player so he doesn't count on the cap.
In year 2 and 3 he is on the cap but doesn't add much more than a regular first team player.
As opposed to paying them £300k a year and taking up a total of £600k over two years you quarter that by front loading the contract.
Definite loophole. There's nothing written against them paying someone £1m first year and £1 every year afterwards.Interesting... is this against the rules, or a loophole?

I have no idea how egregiously they do it - and I doubt they have the audacity to pay players a £1 salary!
I should point out that I have absolutely no inside information and am not an accountant - but it's the most obvious bit of "creative accounting" that's not flagrantly cheating.
I'd imagine they do it for every high paid player they can - marquee or not... it' just frees up space in the future.
I'm sure that all players are trying to exploit tax loopholes but wouldn't a €5 salary for an entire year be against minimum wage laws?In Racing Metro in France Sexton got his 2 years salary up front and is on €5 for year 2 he said in some article before but that is because of French tax laws it's a loophole. So it shows rugby clubs ain't stupid in that regard
