Transfers rumours

Perhaps €5 a day? Thats still less than the minimum wage isn't it?

Ever so slightly... it's not even minimum wage in France if you make that an hour. €1,445.38 per month, €9.53 per hour, according to wiki

I'm sure that all players are trying to exploit tax loopholes but wouldn't a â'¬5 salary for an entire year be against minimum wage laws?

Possibly but it was said and there are ways around that. Minimum wage only applies to pay per hour employees not salary. You see some directors on â'¬1 a year. Where's all the business brains?

Just to bring up the supposed salary cap loophole again, I have had it pointed out to me that it is not possible to front load salary in that way, due to Regulation 3.3(d) of Premier Rugby's salary regulations, here:

http://www.premiershiprugby.com/downloads/SalaryCapRegulations201314.pdf

Specifically:

1. Players who went from marquee to non-marquee - their salary in the non-marquee years towards the cap is an average of all years at the club. So if a player is paid £800k then £50k then £50k (i.e. average of £300k per year), their first year is marquee and so taken out of the cap, the second year is an average of £800k + £50k = £425k and the third year is an average of £800k + £50k + £50k = £300k. The team spend £725k of their salary cap on him over three years, whereas a team which spreads their salary on him by a £300k/£300k/£300k split only spent £600k of their cap on him over the three years. It's actually worse to split the salary this way.

2. Players who went from non-marquee to marquee - only the average of their salary whilst being at the club can be taken outside of the cap. So if a player is paid £50k then £50k then £800k, only the average of their years (i.e. £300k) can be taken outside of the cap in their third year. £500k is still spent on the cap. So over three years, £600k is spent on the cap. Exactly the same as they would have spent by a £300k/£300k/£300k split. This way, the club get two years of "exceeding the cap" followed by a year of having to find £500k worth of savings from their squad.

Bongi Mbonambi Bulls possibly going to the Stormers.

No loss really

Anthony Perenise is supposedly considering whether to activate the clause in his Bris contract which allows him to be loaned to a Premiership club (Bath obviously).

Sale are signing.....someone, to be announced this month. Apparently it's a big signing, but I take all announcements like that with a pinch of salt as they like to talk it up a lot.
It'll either be a prop, hooker or winger - probably a hooker, as we have no third choice hooker with Croall and Baines leaving.
Potentially that Argentinian that Bath released.

Yeah, I've not heard great things about him.
Realistically, if it is him, he's not going to be getting much game time at all - unless Taylor and/or Jones get injured. Most likely just rotated in during the LV=, with Cameron Neild.

i remembered when edinburgh were announcing a big signing which is apparently a big signing but turn's out it was only Fraser McKenzie, well we got Anton Bresler but we dont have 'the beast' to save him ;)

Trevor Nyakane and Adriaan Strauss have recently been linked with a move to the Bulls, while Lappies Labuschagne is considering offers from the Bulls and Sharks.

Exactly.

I mean, how do London Welsh even afford a 70 cap All Black? I know he is no longer the player he was but he's still too good to be playing for a basement Premiership team IMO.

My only thought is that the Blues don't want him next year (haven't heard any rumours about that though and I do try and keep up on these things) and he can't find another Super Rugby or Japanese team.

Odd.

Fingers crossed they've hired someone new to handle the paperwork after what happened when they signed a Kiwi #9 before.

To be honest I think they'd have been better served throwing all this cash at Cook, to tempt him across fulltime from Bath. He's been excellent for them, and Weepu is fat, old and nowhere near the player he once was.

Maybe he thinks he's coming to live in London?

Supposedly we've swapped him for Roberts.
