Transfers rumours

I can't agree at all that Heaslip moving is good for Ireland and especially Leinster which in turn will effect Ireland. Ruddock is already playing and is a 6 only really, Murphy is a good player but I don't think 8 is his strongest position and he still has a lot of stuff to clean up as an 8 before I'd be comfortable with him starting a big game at 8 also a common criticism but not one I think I'd go along with is that he's simply not tall enough to be a top level modern 8 and Ryan is also not an 8 and rumoured to be moving anyay. Also Leinster have Cullen and BO'D going at the end of this season if Heaslip goes as well that's three captains with no obvious replacement. It is also less than ideal for Ireland to have our vice captain not playing in Ireland.

Regards leadership etc yes I agree and from what I see/know of Heaslip he's good for being a central part of gelling team off the field and a heart but if he want to go I still would say it not all that bad. I knowRyan not an 8 and agree Ruddock is grand as makeshift 8 but Murphy is good and I rate Conan as a future Irish player possibly and Gilsenan has great potential too

In fairness though it's agents that have papers wrapped up easily. Regards Heaslip though I still think he will go and it'd be great for Ireland if he does as it'll mean he will be playing and another Irish guy (Ruddock, Murphy even Ryan) will be too. But if it's believed as reported today that SOB is going to France next week to try seal a deal that'd be very bad for Leinster and Ireland but again I think it's just agents playing the game. Journalists here are slow as Conor George had it that Penney and all staff had signed extensions but that was all bull nothing signed and from what I heard still few ****les to sort

Right enough the papers are probably speculating but SOB could command a fair wedge of â'¬ I'd say, enough that'd be very hard to turn down.

Can't agree that losing these guys is good for ireland, you can't keep losing players and expect to stay as competitive as before, Leinster have lost or will lose soon: nacewa, sexton, bod & Leo Cullen, adding heaslip & SOB to that list would be catastrophic in my opinion. Leinster have some good young players but that is a huge gap to have to fill. Suppose if you were to search for a silver lining then you could say at least the young players will get games.

True but some are retirements it happened is here in Munster but fact is it's the way our game is going. But my point is SOB is irreplaceable and I agree it won't be good if he goes but Heaslip wouldn't be the end or if SOB goes its vital Heaslip stays.

Agree that Losing both would be a disaster. All these players leaving the rabo is not good for the league as a whole.

But money going in France is ridiculous. But Irish province always have and will remain competitive.

The financial gap is growing all the time. If we have a European competition next season, the finances will be more in favour of the French & English (the proposed system seems fairer tbh) but if we start to lose our star players on a regular basis then the provinces will be less competitive. In fact with recent retirements, you could argue that none of the provinces look like winning the competition this season, should poaching key players become the norm, then it's a slippery slope

No none look like winning but then again out of Ireland's 6 successes in the HEC only 1 of Leinsters was where it looked probable from the end of pool stages. Even last year Munster were 1 bounce from beating Clermont in Semis and I believe would've beat Toulon in Dublin. Not saying Munster are better than Clermont just they possibly could've done it. Fact is money isn't everything and well players won't go just to sit on a bench too and add in here players are looked after better medically, physically and commercially. Been honest too I think some of the standards in French rugby have suffered in recent times and the traditional slick French style is dying a bit

True enough mm, that's why we love sport, it goes up a level once we hit the knock out stages but anything can happen. Just fear the IRFU are struggling to keep up with the wage inflation, let's see what happens, the lads haven't signed for anyone ... yet.

True but that French moneybags won't last forever and I think any serious guy would be more attracted to culture & history opposed to cash

The French are getting richer mm, you had best get used to this because it's only going one way. the new top14 tv deal is worth more then the IRFU's annual turnover. If we have European competition next year, big if, the French will get a bigger slice of the pie then currently. Its pure fantasy to say the French moneybags wont last.

Professional sports people follow the money, unless you can sweeten the deal to make up for it but money talks if you offer enough of it. Also plenty of culture & huge tradition of rugby in South of France.

Really? Whats the salary budget for Leinster? Bet its more than nearly all the English clubs and most of the French clubs. Happy to be proved wrong.

Provinces have salary cap of around the â'¬1.3m for year but that includes staff too

I don't know what the salary cap is for the provinces because the central contracts complicate it etc but with the provinces essentially being a breakdown of team ireland, then I'd expect the wage bill is quite high all things considered.

What I meant above was that the financial distribution from the European cup next year will be distributed more favourably to English & French clubs from next season on, as the money will be split per club/region/province rather then per country

The English club signed a lucrative new tv deal with bt, so are on a better financial footing collectively. I'm not saying your clubs are rolling in cash like the top French clubs. More that the premiership as a league will have more financial clout.

Have worked within Munster but can't find link but don't believe if you want but it's fact

Jaysus wept mm, you don't have to defend every single aspect of Irish rugby in a debate, you're being way too defensive.

The provinces might have their own small enough operational budget to work with but Munster & Leinster have a pile of players on central contracts that obviously the IRFU pay for & wages is the biggest expense the IRFU have.

Jamie Heaslip alone is thought to be on 450,000, BOD on 400,000, to keep SOB is going to take a similar figure, it adds up quick enough.

Yes but Heaslip BOD etc are not on Leinsters Budget and Ireland's budget is around â'¬7.6m for central contracts. It's not defending nothing it's just saying what is. Like if you want to debate at least look up stats

Hold on he stated the budget salary for Leinster was 1.3m. I was asking him to prove that because part of mine and muffins debate was that the Anglo French teams had all the money and I am very very sure that given tax breaks/central contacts etc the overall budget for Leinster is as high if not higher than the £4.5m EPL salary cap.

Muffin was not being defensive he was just explaining his point like I would expect him too.
