Public transport in this country is a ******* joke - 4.6% rise for what? My local line still hasn't put back the trains they cancelled during COVID

Can see the point in the article they should be encouraging people to use trains more not less. The freeze on fuel duty isn't getting people out there cars.

I'm still surprised they reached a deal with Aslef with no modernisation or reforms. I do get the strikes were hurting the economy.

Just seems like increased fares, same rubbish service.

Seems like a vicious circle to me. The more expensive and **** public transport is the less people use it which just reduces revenue and pushes up prices further. I supported public transport workers getting a fair pay deal but would like to have seen an agreement on reform and service level improvement.

How hard can it be to look a similar countries that have good PT systems and learn from it.

I imagine if Labour are going to try and fix public transport it won't be until after the economy is stronger. At this stage, really the only way the government can sort out the trains is to renationalise them. They are never going to solve it through privatisation. However, to do that the economy needs to be stronger.

Badenoch new Tory leader. Looks like the Tories are going to go after Reform and lurch further to the right. I imagine the centrists in the party will do what Cleverly has done and stay on the back benches and wait, rather than trying to break away. No one wants to give up the name.
