Transfers rumours

not happy about that, I know he is a bit of a joke figure outside Tigers but hes a very realible try scoring no8 who has crossed over the white wash a few times to bail us out the S&^T.

With Flood going as well its not looking good for next season.

Waldrom has been rumoured to be leaving for ageeeees though. I think I remember hearing Bristol at the start of the season?

Signing a quality 8 should be Tigers' second priority (after a 10).

Hold on he stated the budget salary for Leinster was 1.3m. I was asking him to prove that because part of mine and muffins debate was that the Anglo French teams had all the money and I am very very sure that given tax breaks/central contacts etc the overall budget for Leinster is as high if not higher than the £4.5m EPL salary cap.

Muffin was not being defensive he was just explaining his point like I would expect him too.

Just to explain Irish system to you.
IRFU pay 20 central contracts. These are not factored in to our budgets then we have provincial contract which usually for top class guys are worth â'¬100k per year or around that.

For academy in Munster the supporters club foots most of the bill.

Reason French get players too is they pay majority tax free. Sexton is rumoured to be on â'¬750k per year but supposedly was paid â'¬1.5m up front as it's tax free in first year. Maybe a French person can explain and this is supposedly part of the attractive offers

So if Leinster have 20 players on central contracts on an average of 250K per player thats 5m plus the 1.3m from Leinster itself thats a budget of 6.3m euros which isnt bad and it more than the budget of the Welsh regions.

That's 20 central contracts between all of the provinces.

so as there are more than 20 players in the Irish 6 nations team I take it the IRFU componsate the provinces for player release?

As Feic said 20 are across the 4 provinces and just because your on central contract doesn't mean huge money. Like Keith Earls is on around â'¬160k on his central. So just because you on central doesn't mean lots of cash necessarily

Unions owns all teams so no compensation just (as it should be) the pride of having a player wear green. And just because your on Central contract doesn't mean your in team. For example ROG was left out completely despite being on Central contract while Jackson and Madigan were put in

Connacht have 41 players according to wikipedia. No internationals so no central contracts. 1.3m/41 gives just a bit over 30k euros as an average salary for professional rugby players at Connacht.

Or let's say Leinster have Healy, Ross, O'Brien, Heaslip, D'Arcy, BO'D, Kearney and maybe one or two more as central contracts. So Leinster has 40 - 9 = 31 players not on central contracts. That's ~40k euros per player for guys like Gopperth, Tuqiri, Ryan, McCarthy etc.

So the player doesnt earn extra for playing for Ireland? oh come on.

Not all are contracted, most are probably academy too and regards Leinster some could be on more money more on less and some semi contracted with some academy

No they're employed by Ireland and they're a proud bunch who play for pride of jersey. They probably have bonuses for doing grand slams etc but appearance wise no they do it just for love of getting international jersey

Yes get the proud thing etc etc most players are, so if you are not on a central contract you are still employed by Ireland and do not recieve any extra money for international rugby?

No because effectively every player in Ireland is employed by IRFU and simply it's just central contracts aren't in provincial budgets. It's like basically Ireland is a club and some guys are on more than others but they're still all same

So next question: who pays for the Provincal budget? the IRFU or is it funded by gate recipts etc?

The IRFU allocate it but the provinces still have to operate as business so it's vital they still sell out games etc and they do. Each province does it different like here in Munster the MRSC pays the academy a large chunk but it's a confusing thing to explain but provinces are basically 4 separate business's under the 1 large business.
