Transfers rumours

I think Toulon are trying to reassemble the 2007 RWC squad.
As the Blues Brothers said "we're putting the band back together."

Sean O'Brien - They keep on coming....."After Jonathan Sexton and Ronan O'Gara (responsible kicking game), another Irish star could join the ranks of Racing Metro. This is the international third-row Sean O'Brien (26 years, 27 caps). Out of contract with Leinster in June, the Irish could be in advance contact with the Paris club. So says the website of the Irish Times .
But leaders Racing Metro are not the only ones in the running. Clermont is also interested in the profile of Irish third-row."

Was told that Leigh Halfpenny is in Toulon.
Delon is excellent for RCT, but Leigh would be a superb goal kicking replacement for Jonny.

Clermont could use him more than Toulon.
Delon is quality, whereas Clermont could use a consistent kicker. When's Byrne out of contract?

Agree there. Byrnes contract was for three years, so he will be done end of this season. Wonder if they will focus on Buttin instead.

Heard this on a different forum but no source, Pablo Matera apparently in talks with Leicester Tigers

Imanol.....HaHaHaa.................rumour that Toulon are after Imanol!!!! Last challenge................I can ony hope that the rumour is correct because he will be off the pay roll and they can bring in younger players with the spirit and enthusiasim that the younger Imanol showed so amply and often in the Basque and French colours................unlikely that Blanco would take the decision to let him go judged on previous form!!

In truth.......cannot see it as why would Toulon want an injured 33 year old? Reckon its a rumour put about by "his people" pushing for a new contract!!

why ? lol i'd be fine with Fernandez-lobbe

I'd do a swap straight away...................!!

Lobbe is becoming quite injury prone himself. Still quality when on the field though. A shame Harinordoquy is suffering so much from injuries at this stage of his career, it seems his career is ending with a wimper in a failing side. Always rated him highly when at his peak.

Quick rumour, take with a pinch of salt.

Apparently Fissler reported that Gloucester will give a new contract to one of JSD or Sharples, but not both.

Both are out of contract, and it fits in with the need to redirect resources to the front 5, especially when May, JSD and Sharples may be too much to spend on wings. Also, contract negotiations are going ahead at Glos, as Twelvetrees has already had an extension announced, so the time frame fits in.

I think Glos can find a use for all three. May can play some 13/15, JSD can play 13, and rotation is needed anyway.

If the rumour is true, I cannot really fathom why Glos would even consider re-signing Sharples at the expense of JSD. Makes me kind of doubt the rumour to begin with.

Because this would be JSD's last contract, while Sharples still potentially has ten years at the club?

... Ok, I haven't even really sold myself with that one... However - three quality wings = too much? Not sure about that one.

Difference would be one of attitudes....JFL is a completely whole hearted player whereas IM tends now to play in fits and starts in a match and take a lot of "medical" breaks from which he inevitably emerges without any actual injury but well rested.....his only real strengh to this failing side now is his work at the line out.....

I don't think Sharples is currently justifying the price tag he probably comes with at the minute, never mind a potential option for 10 years! Whereas JSD is still the best broken field and creative runner at Glos, and he wants to stay so we should be able to get a discount on his services. No brainer for me, I'm afraid!

Sadly, I think the restraints of the cap means it is so. Glos need three good front 5 players in (hooker, tighthead, lock) and the slack needs to come from somewhere.

Doug Wooldridge is apparently going to a club in France near the Swiss border, my guess is the club in Bourg-en-Bresse in D2, he is leaving immediately after the ARC is completed so we'll know the club at that time.
