[RWC2019][Quarter-Final 1] England vs. Australia (19/10/2019)

really? That's why they have struggled in the last 4 years and this World Cup. Their forwards not giving the backs enough front foot ball. Then there is the defence....

Yeah you're right over the past 4 years. It's pretty much just this year they've come alright with the front row and locks. Rodda was really good out there today I thought. Naisarani goes pretty good as well.

This is a perfect result from an nz Ireland perspective, giving England some false confidence.

On a more serious note, for ford supporters you shouldn't be too disappointed; a bench role in a playoff game is a big role, having to close out or come from behind. Ford is good in that role. I think they've got the selection right with Farrell playing very well in this game and Slade, well, that kick was beautiful. One of the better pieces of individual brilliance in a World Cup knockout you will ever see.

36 % possession, 40-16 win. England have, without question, the best defence in the world. In Watson and May they have the best wingers around.

Aus do have a good front 5, surprisingly it's the back row who have been a bit iffy. Even then that's not the main problem it's the backs, attacking structures and the like. Weird because everyone raves about their backs but whatever is happening from a coaching perspective it's clearly b0rked, plus a few are overrated.

If you want my hot take; Genia is a good athlete but a poor 9, Australian centres are pretty bad and there's been too much change in 10 shirt.

Outside that grubber Slade was shite rather JJ was playing. I think we got our tactics exactly right today and with selection for those tactics. I'd prefer Ford to start but I can't complain too much after that.

I'd definitely go back to Ford-Farrell-Tuilagi for next week. Slade's grubber today was class but he offered nothing else and Tuilagi is so much more dangerous when he's in the 12 channel.

Sinckler MOTM actually... Not sure why talk think it's curry?

Not what BBC are reporting.

Man of the match: Tom Curry
The 21-year-old was up against the best flankers in international rugby across the last two World Cups in David Pocock and Michael Hooper. Curry was outstanding throughout, making 16 tackles and with partner-in-crime Sam Underhill dominated their storied opposite numbers.

Mixed reporting. Oh well, they both played bloody well and that's the main thing and England into the semis.:)

Big booming clearances, strong defensively and the kick through.

All on virtually no rugby so he's gonna get better.

Don't understand your Tuilagi point - did you mean in the 13 channel?
Assuming you did, I don't agree - when he's at 12, he attracts defenders making space outside, which Slade can exploit and bring in the back 3.

I've long thought Farrell/Manu/Slade is our best midfield and today confirmed that for me, which isn't to say I've anything against Ford, who I thought did just what we needed off the bench.

But it's all opinions, Ford/Farrell/Manu is hardly a poor choice.

Aye, EJs explanation post game made a lot of sense
(They expected Australia to come out the gates and throw everything they have at England for the first half hour, so Farrell starts at 10 as he's our best defensive 10 - bring ford on in the second half when the game starts to get looser)

Is that from twitter?
England do a fans vote that is separate to the official.

Tbh it could go to any of curry Underhill Sinckler and no one would bat an eye.
