[RWC2023 SF2] England vs South Africa (21/10/2023)

From the footage that was distributed I think the call is legit, he yells it 2 to 3 times.

The question is as reported what was said off the ball.

Off the ball and when the ball was out of play, according to Tom. Curry also says Mbonambi said it to him, not shouted it as a call.

He may be mistaken - which isn't unlikely, it's a physical and emotional game, but assuming he's not it undermines the whole "it's a common call" argument.

You don't look someone in the eyes and shout "open side".

Just watched the play immediately preceding the accusation. Tom Curry has taken the ball and is on the floor with Mbonambi lying on top of him. The play moves away from them with it being just the 2 of them on the ground and the accusation is made in the very next break in play. Curry can also be seen staring at Mbonambi immediately after this.

I'm beginning to suspect he did it, especially with Curry now clarifying it was aimed at him and not during play.

Apologies for terrible quality.
Image 1 Mbonambi is the South African on the floor, having just made the tackle. Curry is on the floor behind him and the other English player out of vision.
Image 2 Mbonambi getting up, he looks over at Curry as he gets up (the one still lying on the floor)
Image 3 Mbonambi walking away, Curry is staring at the back of his head for a bit then goes straight to the ref and makes the accusation.

If this is where Curry claimed it was said, there is no way Mbonambi was saying "white side" in Afrikaans here.
