[RWC2019][Quarter-Final 1] England vs. Australia (19/10/2019)

36 % possession, 40-16 win. England have, without question, the best defence in the world. In Watson and May they have the best wingers around.

Yeah, we hear an awful lot about Shaun Edwards and Andy Farrell being brilliant defence coaches, but I hardly ever see John Mitchell mentioned.

England were very controlled today, clinical when they had opportunities, and strong defensively. Pretty much what you'd want when playing knockout rugby.

Aus on the other hand? No idea what the hell they were doing when in their own 22. They failed to clear their lines and Eng capitalised on a couple of occasions.

Surprised how quiet Pocock was. Not the player he once was, but a huge amount of credit must be given to the English pack. Curry and Underhill were great, really dominated the tackle area.

Man that was sweet. Was a nervous first 10 not seeing much ball. Still don't like Manu at 12 thought they broke too often when we got too narrow. Daly got gassed a few times.

Australia were there to be outmuscled but was still nervous they had a performance in them. Their pack looks competitive but surely the Aussie fans will be glad to see the back of Cheika, totally unsettled back line going into a QF isn't where you want to be.

Soooo... we're into the semifinals, got a full 31 to pick from next week, have scored at least 4 tries in every game and not conceded more than 1 try in any game, have had a reasonable penalty count and no yellow or red cards, and, most importantly, all the players look happy and relaxed, not tense and nervy like they're feeling the pressure. Pretty textbook World Cup so far.

And this win apparently guarantees 4 more years of Eddie. Really excited to see what we can win over the next 4 years with this young and talented team and Eddie in charge. :)

Hahaaa,
Tom Curry did get the official MOTM, just seen a clip of him getting given the award (on Ben Currys insta story) and Tom goes to shake the woman's hand she just stares at him and leaves him hanging for an age

Don't say I missed the Cheika post match interview !
He didn't even complain about the ref!

Not what BBC are reporting.

Man of the match: Tom Curry
The 21-year-old was up against the best flankers in international rugby across the last two World Cups in David Pocock and Michael Hooper. Curry was outstanding throughout, making 16 tackles and with partner-in-crime Sam Underhill dominated their storied opposite numbers.
They play completely different games. Pocock was the best when turnovers were king, but they aren't anymore. Curry and Underhill aren't really 7s. They play like 6s who can't jump, really. But that's perfect against two fetching 7s who also don't jump.

Apparently before today the record for tackles by an England player in a World Cup was 16; today that was surpassed by Faz, George, Mako AND Underhill. Excellent defence

Ford from the bench just pins them back, either run back at us, kick to us or kick to touch. Either way your staying in your own half!

Anyway...job done satis!

Guinness in hand. Get a job done ireland although uf bridge gets 2 tries i get £285! Jonny may and George bridge both to get 2 or more tries.

Outside that grubber Slade was shite rather JJ was playing. I think we got our tactics exactly right today and with selection for those tactics. I'd prefer Ford to start but I can't complain too much after that.

Totally agree don't see what you're loosing with JJ over Slade.

One last point. Faz could have missed every single kick and we still would have won by 4 points :p:p:p

His contract runs out in 2021 and he's been pretty upfront about retiring and handing the job over during the next couple of years. Will be interesting to see what actually happens.

Right now it's looking like Mitchell to me.

I'm pretty sure they changed all that last year, doing away with the two years of training a successor idea and signing EJ up to 2023.
