RWC: Argentina - England (10-09-2011, 20:30)

What were peoples thoughts of Michael Lipman? He did a great job as an openside for the melbourne rebels. Was in the Top 5 of openside flankers in the super comp imo.
He played for Bath before he got banned and went back to Oz, yeah I rated him as a good player - consistent and work rate was high. Played for England a few times too

Aah must have missed that happening:p. Did he get banned with Stevens? So stupid....

Fear no more about Englands midfield. The messiah is here. Billy Twelvetrees just scored two tries, kicked 5 penalties and got both conversions today. Twelvetrees/Tuilagi axis after RWC. :D

Youngs - Flood - Twelvetrees - Tuilagi? Why not just call them the English Tigers or Leicester Rose :p

Flood?

Pffft, George Ford or Freddie Burns or Rory Clegg will overtake him with time :p

Robbing people didn't seem to stop Cooper, doubt drugs will stop him playing for England.

You seem to mention Cooper everytime you quote me. Do you have like a menage trois fantasy about the 3 of us?

Would that ruin his chances playing for england then?

Nah, Stevens was actually guilty of taking drugs/failed a test, Lipman was guilty of not doing the tests, didn't get as big a ban, and Stevens is back in the mix now

Plays on the other side of the world though, so that doesn't help - Also pretty old (31? 32?) - Younger guys would be preferred to him if he was on his way back to the UK

Did Lipman not admit to having a problem where Stevens did?

I thought he was in the same boat as Higgins and that other guy who missed several tests and then took a ban for that rather than doing a test to prove their innocence?

Not sure though!

Stevens tested positive for cocaine use and got two years. Lipman, Higgins, Alex Crockett and Justin Harrison didn't take the test but took the ban for not taking the test; but if you don't have anything to hide then taking the test wouldn't have been a problem?! Highly suspect . . .

England were abysmal, it was a low quality game and they really do play the most boring rugby ever. It's all kick and hope with them and they can't even do that, I thought the world beater Jonny was awful with his kicking.

I mean, yes we were abysmal. Fair enough. But to be honest wales in the last few years have not been playing less boring rugby. Much of the time your backs just crab around from one side of the pitch to the other and theres not often that much midfield creativity, even when Hook - who i really rate - is playing 12. with wilkinson i'd say yes we play more boring rugby. but in the last 3 years of the six nations we've scored the most tries in 2 of the 3 tournaments. Its not all bad

What a great event! Certainly not the best game of rugby I've ever seen, but the atmosphere inside the stadium was incredible - the Argentinian fans seems to be cheering and dancing the whole match! It would have to be one of the worst displays of goal-kicking I've ever seen; it was not as though the kickers were just missing either, most of the time they weren't even getting close.

Though I wanted Argentina to win, I think the result was fair - both teams had plenty of chances to score, and England took their try scoring chance. I was very impressed with the speed of Argentina's defensive line; before the match I was worried that Argentina would struggle to contain England's big centres, but Argentina's line speed meant the had no chance to get up to full speed. I thought Argentina's outside backs were particularly impressive - they look like they could be devastating with clean ball.

For England I was particularly impressed by James Haskell. 7 is clearly not his best position, but he was definately the pick of England's forwards for me - surely they have to find a spot for him in the starting lineup when Moody returns (at 8?). Ben Youngs obviously made a huge impact when he came on, the England backline looked instantly sharper (though Argentina were probably getting tired at this stage too..).

On the black jersey debate.... It's rugby, not a fashion show, I couldn't care less what colour jerseys teams are wearing!

So you are ok with the bright green the highlanders will be strutting around in next year?

If they win who cares about a shirt? Look at St.France brought them a shitload of money producing ugly shirts, they get noticed and somehow people buy them alot :p.
