RWC: Argentina - England (10-09-2011, 20:30)

I dont understand the reasoning behind England changing their kit from white to black. I thought the white and red gave them a sense of identity which seems to have been lost a little when you look at them sporting the all 'black' strip. Does anyone know of the valid reason why they did indeed make the change?

I have no issue with the black uniform apart from the numbers peeling off. If the uniform annoys the kiwis then im all for it ahahaha!! :p

It was supposed to be psychological. But if England are going to keep playing like that whilst wearing black they can keep it:D

There's a thread on England's black jersey and feel free to open one on how much of a prick Haskell is. What did you think of the game?

england playing tough games like this is only going make them more dangerous, nz are getting an easy ride to the quarter finals and england are playing tough games like this, coming from behind against a tough defence to gruel out a hard fought for victory, this is the kind of situation nz would have choked in.

Why is there a regular routine of stories regarding Haskells eyes and someones fingers?

NB. The black shirt issues. It's only an issue because it's England, lots of teams are using black change shirts. I recommend the kiwi (media) stops being a bunch of precious females.

Yeah it's mostly parts of our media. The average kiwi fan thinks it's silly to fly in the face of your own traditions, but realise you can't tell any other team what they can and can't wear.

The way i understood the black kit thing is that argentina were considered to be the home side, so they wore the blue and white shirt....in order to avoid confusion england wear a change shirt....that was my assumption anyway.

Your assumption is correct, because of the light blue of the Argentinian Shirt and the amount of white on both Home kicks, England had to change to their away kit...

To be fair to England, the away kit has always been Dark or Red...

I guess the debate then becomes, why black? Well why not? We have had dark blue, that deep purple...black is a huge improvement IMO....and in 2 weeks time i look forward to wearing my shirt in NZ when I watch us v Scotland :D

No it hasn't. Navy is the traditional change colour.

Onto talking about rugby (imagine that on this forum?! Crazy I know), Lawes "citing".

If those tackles seriously warrant a citing, someone find me a new sport. Rugby Union will have the final nail in its coffin.

His hit on Ledesma would be worthy of a citing, didn't see the Tiesi one but apparently it was late?

The Tiesi one didnt look too late in real time, but in slow motion it did appear late and brutal as it came through the back....worthy of citing? im not sure

Ledesma incident, it looked more clumsy and unintentional than anything. Uncontrolled slide possibly, which can indanger someone on the floor, so I wouldnt be surprised to see a citing there

If it had been the one incident I think he wouldn't of been cited, however as there were two, although neither really call for a citing I can see one happening... The way of the modern game...

If that cruncher on Tiesi was late there's no point making tackles in rugby.

Ledesma was caught by an accidental knee after both players had gone down. When I still played (which wasn't that long ago) it would have still been considered a rugby incident.

I think going into the next game England need to make some big chances as they need to win comfortably, even if it is just a confidence boost... We need to shackle Toby Flood and Johnny Wilkinson to the field and get them practising kicking goals

I personally think we get Lawes to tackle him, and then bring Owen Farrell or someone else over...

Bugger that, Farrell is yet another youngster who's been overhyped by the media and primed for a huge fall which they'll lap up in in droves (which is par for course when English standoffs are concerned).

[strike]Johnson[/strike] Brian Smith ruined Geraghty to accommodate Wilkinson. That's set England back at least 5 year until some as still unknown kid comes up through the ranks.

Until then we have nothing for the 10 shirt?
