RWC: Argentina - England (10-09-2011, 20:30)

His knee did not hit Ledesma's head, he slid in on his knees.

I could have been that he expected the guy to be upright when he hit him and had to change his hit while in full flight *thinks optimistically*. I'm not entirely convinced that he deliberately kneed him, could have been spurr of the monent bad decision making - they happen.

Think he was already commited to hitting him when, whoever it was tackled him from behind. Would that have not happened it was a trysaving tackle.

The more I watch it, I see the Argentinian suddenly go down in the tackle, by which time Lawes is committed, he could have jumped over the guy, or ensured he was in touch, all in the space of a fraction of a second. In hingsight of course he should have jumped, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm sorry but are people on here seriously trying to justify this?

If a player is tackled, you enter through the gate and try to retrieve the ball legally, you dont dive in on his head with your knee. There is no decision process that should bring you to the conclusion to dive in knees first.

It was a bad decision, but one made while being committed to a tackle, where the other player was initially running, suddenly fell. He made a bad decision, no doubt but one in a fraction of a second.

Lighter end of a suspension maybe, one game, if anything.
Agrre with that. Though minimum is three weeks.

Dont agree with that. Suddenly fell? Christ you know they are playing rugby, Lawes knew he was about to be tackled so it was not as if the tackle was a surprise. The only decision he had to make was to pull out, or go for the cheap hit on the floor. He went for the cheap hit.

Just to clarify, its not the nastiest piece of action Ive seen in a game, and it should only be a minimum 3 week suspension, but I dont accept it was in any way accidental. Lawes has so much prior history already of dodgy late tackles, its part of his modus operandi. This was just another bad and late tackle.

Citings during world cups are given out in games rather than weeks (I think?)

Wouldn't be surprised to see him miss the next three group games (though I think he'll miss two games, personally)

I also can't believe people are defending it, "accidental" or not he mashed his skull in with his knee - it was reckless and stupid

Its clumsy more than malicious but he's rightly been cited, will get 1 possibly 2 games max.

If the citing commission go hard on him then we still have 3 decent 2nd rows to cover but he will be a loss

Which I disagree with. You can "imagine" all you like, John Lennon imagined a world without religion, great stuff but it didn't work out.

A couple of games ban is enough because as I've said, it was a bad decison.

Did anyone think he was a bit more aggressive that usual (even by his own standards) during the Argentina match?

I thought he was making a lot of marginal hits that could have been called up on (i.e, a half a second earler or later than he should, not aways making a proper effort to wrap arms etc). He seemed would quite tight (which happens alot when teams play Argentina) and I'm unsurprised that the citing official found something in there.

But nothing that bad really.

1 match suspension would be fine, three max. Not a huge deal.

I'm sorry but what sthat meant to mean?

You keep talking about this decision Lawes made. I'm just coming at it from the other angle, assuming he could have made the other decision................. you know the one that doesnt involve kneeing the opponent in the head?

You are admitting yourself that he intentionally did it, but your arguing with me. I dont really understand your logic.
