RWC: Argentina - England (10-09-2011, 20:30)

It wouldn't be the first time an Argentine has been accused of gouging.

As for the match, it was very strange. All those missed kicks by Wilko of all people.

Not having that - that was no mild accusation, that was genuine disgust and Haskell is no pussy. Would you have still said that if it were a member of your illustrious team making the accusation?

That was for you RTF_Cymro BTW!

Just watched the slo mo of Manu's tackle. No way on earth that was a penalty.

I agree - He is legally allowed to complete his tackle (I believe? Feel free to prove me wrong anyone) once he has started (and when he started the winger was still in possession)

People are just butthurt because there was the chance of a try and he stopped the chase - I'd be annoyed if it happened to an England player, but it's not dirty, he's not scum, he's just playing to the whistle (as everyone always says :p )

At the end I found myself standing up in the middle of the living room shouting at the TV. :D

That tackle wasn't late IMO

There were late hits that went amiss all over the park. Manu's one was on the lower end of the scale.

and what do you hope for if it turns out there was gouging? Would you forgive him then, almighty cymro?. I'm sorry but I honestly think you don't know what you are talking about. Why would he imply there was gouging if there wasn't. I'm sure that if I met Haskell in person I would probably think he was a prick myself but I don't see how you can cast those judgements sitting in front of your computer screen with no idea what happened.

Ah ... I'll let you simmer down first. Obviously worked up because how rubbish England played. If you want to take me down the route of trying to be funny or clever then you won't.

From the many games I have watched Haskell in ... Wasps, Stade and England ... he has a tendency to have a little cry when someone touches him but he cannot seem to fathom that what you dish out may sometimes come back to haunt you. Note for the cry babies ... this does not imply an eye for an eye, because some as usual will interpret it that way. If there is gouging then there's a lengthy ban ... if there is nothing then Haskell should get punishment for overreacting. Or because he is English that should not happen?

Questioning my rugby knowledge is laughable. Even your last sentence made me cry. Sitting in front of my computer screen ... like you are doing also? A 12 year old comment at best.

Illustrious lol ... Haskell is an idiot plain and simple ... see his celebration against Wales at 'HQ' ...

heavy match with plenty of misses and mistakes from both sides, anyway congratulations England

Well England won, and well done to them, but Argentina were class in this game. Played with so much passion. Ledesma did well after a late knee by Lawes, looked properly K.O'd and still kept playing. Contepomi played on after several rib injuries. Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe was a champ all game. They just seemed to run out of depth when their key players hit the deck.

Amazing goal kicking. Don't know what it was.

If I were an NZ fan i'd feel violated seeing a team play so badly in an all black jersey.

The booing for the kicks was shocking. I suspect the Argy fans are not used toattending rugby games.

That said, said Wilko next week, he needs to have the feeling that he's trusted, no sense in having him dwell on those misses for too long.

The ref was pretty poor and one sided IMO, Eng had more infringements that's for sure, but the Argies were getting away with blue murder.

Clearly you've never been to a Wallabies/All Blacks test at Eden Park if you think that's shocking.

Next match, we really need to introduce a traditional 7 to add more balance to our backrow. Perhaps Banahan? Looking at Wilkinson's performance today, maybe we could give Banahan the goalkicking duties too. He can be our Eales.

How I wish Warburton was English. :p

The number 7 for the Argentinians - I believe his name was "Thegreasyman" - was outstanding I thought.

Stop talking rubbish.Theres no hypocrisy in me also being in front of my computer because my point is that YOU are casting a judgement on went on when really you have no clue. Gouging, as you know, is very serious and bearing in mind you have no clue what was happening when they were rolling around on the ground...why comment? The making judgements whilst sitting in front of your computer screen is more of a pressing issue for you I feel since you are the one who has gone out of his way to create an extensive and entirely new internet/forum personality where you sit magnamimously behind your 7,000 posts using crappy internet sarcasm and forum captions such as 'haters gonna hate' whenever one of the (admiteedly irritating) fan-boys makes a comment about the quality of RWC2011.

And like many others you reel out these completely meaningless suggestions such as 'Maybe because he'senglish he shouldnt be punished?' You want to suggest that the english are the ones who live behind rose-tinted spectacles when to be honest any other celtic nations supporters are worse. Most of the english posters on this forum know their team's limits and just want us to do well. Its quite obvious to me that just as I was disappointed with englands performance you yourself are p*ssed that Argentina didn't win, and you make that absolutely clear through your many comments in which you slate english misdemeanours in the game but ignore those of the opposition. and to quote, Youngs' try was 'undeserved at best'. What was it at worst then!?!? Do we abandon all right to score points simply because Bryce Lawrence decided to penalise us at every breakdown? Argentina played very well but I think overall only a very angry and sour person would resent England for winning. Which no doubt yo uwill now claim to not care about but I think in some of your posts its quite clear.

To be clear, this is not about your knowledge of rugby as I know you are well respected for that, but I think you can be incredibly judgemental and to be honest, a bit sour

I have no clue ... pssshhh please ...

I have every right to comment, the fact of the matter stands that some players do act like footballers given the chance. Haskell is one.

You know nothing about me personally but if you do feel the need to make it personal then you won't be on this forum for long. I am genuine, unlike some who feel it is ok to take pot shots at staff.

You interpreted it wrong. What I am saying and I think its quite right, if Haskell has not been gouged then his over-reaction deserves punishment much like any player that does it. You are making a mountain out of nothing.

Disappointed yes ... because they had the chances to finish England early on.

Quality assumption ... apparently I am angry and sour ... please don't bother sunshine. Another low shot comment that a child would make. You have taken the argument out of the context and twisted it whatever way your mind works. I have nothing to resent ... the victory in Cardiff was good for me.

Your the one thats sour, not me.

Another classic technique of yours: patronising use of 'sunshine', or 'child' to imply that the person is significantly younger and less intelligent than yourself. Neither is the case mate.

Top effort from the Argies.
Good to see england move the ball a bit. just need to mix it up instead of shovelling it from side to side. Some runners cutting in for short balls straightening the attack (thinking tuilagi, ashton, foden) might keep the defense a bit more honest. Armitage looked a bit slow out wide. Foden or ashton could have capitalized a bit better with the oppurtunities Armitage had. Probably put him back at fullback. England front row looked better with Sheridan and Thompson off. So not looking forward to watching the Wallabies pack against them.
Both teams lacked discipline and thought the ref was quite good. Hopefully that sets the trend for the rest of the tournament

I think Thompson has been our best hooker for a while, especially in the tight. I can see Stevens coming in for Sheridan though - his impact in the scrum has to be noticed. Also, I'd rather not play Foden out of position. In games where possession changes hands a lot, Foden is probably the best counterattacker in England. Up against the big teams, and he will be essential at fullback. When Cueto comes back, I'd begrudgingly put him back in (our other options? oh Banahan again), and keep Armitage as an impact player.

We have to look at Flood again. Wilkinson is usually dependable and we can call on him later on in games, but we need to play Flood in the next two games against the minnows because our chances in this world cup lie with our backs and when on top form, Flood is better at engaging the backs than Wilkinson is. The days where we dominated with our pack are gone. We have a strong scrum, but in the breakdown we're susceptible to being turned over or making mistakes. That said, we do have a fair few ball carriers and some great backs to run an exciting game. We need more focus on making this happen.

Also, am I the only one thinking that we could have spared a lock (using Croft as emergency cover and calling in others in case of injury) or a prop to take another fly-half? Most people would say Flood is off-form, Wilkinson had a bad game and perhaps having a third available would have increased our options. Well, what's done is done I guess.

Not allowed to celebrate when he scores then?
