Premiership Singha Sevens -2015

I'll be in Newky tomorrow, and thinking about it I'd wager that Newcastle's not-quite-in-the-spirit side might be an attempt to thrash a few teams at home in front of a crowd of non-regulars in the hope to lure a few to some Premiership games.

Really looking forward to tomorrow now! :D

Please you have a CLP who has been a top 5 points scorer in world rugby sevens.

Dropped out to be replaced by 19yr old Matt Postlethwaite (owner of one of the poshest surnames going :p)

To be fair, when it was first announced a few years back I really wanted teams to be putting out as many 1st choicers as possible. I can understand why they don't, and with how few 'A' games there are a season it's a good chance for Academy guys to get more game time.

For a Newcastle especially, but for every team to a lesser extent, the choice is between establishing younger players and establishing the club and building support. Both help, but in different ways. E.g. Newcastle won't really benefit from bringing through more youngsters (more than anyone else, anyway), but if they could fill Kingston Park it would be a huge boost financially and for the players' morale, so they'll pick a squad to impress and hopefully pull in new support.

Saracens, by contrast, have a significant fan base and a lot of young players, so they do the reverse.

That's not really what it's about though... hence why everyone plays their academy kids.

I don't know, approached the right way it could be a good way of building up fitness pre season. Maybe Wasps are only doing it to put bums on seats in the Ricoh or maybe they see it as pre season.

Saracens... big fanbase?

Travelling "army" of about 100.

More competitive games is the last thing senior players need - we should be actively trying to reduce their workload... not increasing it.

Maybe Saracens was a poor example then :D and Falcons only have a few home fans... (It is improving Tbf)

Saracens certainly don't have the financial situation of Falcons

Aye, Falcons just look a class above, which is to be expected.
Liked that the commentary referred to them as Scotland a couple of times

Fuks me off a bit the commentators trying to ease the thing about Falcons having sevens players.

Don't mind the odd ringer but to have 7/8 + sevens internationals players brought in no excuse really.

Disappointed to not see Odogwu playing.

Shame about that was in the original squad but changed yesterday.

Either injured or Mauger is wanting him to train with the seniors like Treisdder and Bryant are.

Hoping Mauger is looking at him he is a talented 13/14 scored a few nice try's against bath on finals day.
