June Internationals: Argentina v England, First Test (08/06/13)

I have no way of knowing how good the Argentine players are supposed to be....

Would suggest that it is not that great as the lack of international exposure over many years must surely lead to a huge lack of depth in the squad and this is basically at least their second team...I mean would Contemponi at his age play in many international second teams now?

They can only play what is front of them and, in that, they are doing what is asked of them!

I think that Mike Brown is having a shocker and am a fan of his at 15 and this is his type of game......

England is beating the crap out of Argentina !!...did not see this coming...

But this is some of the most entertaining rugby I have seen England play.

I would be genuinely happy with this team in a Six Nations game. Obviously, its not our strongest, but it is strong...

... it's also a bit sloppy. Irritating. We could be 35 up or so I reckon.

Corbs, T Youngs, B Youngs, Parling, Croft, Manu would all be rightly disappointed not to be included in that!!

Edit....and Dan Cole!!

Contepomi still plays for their first team. Started the Wales game last year.

Yes then he was seriously injured and is now 35........you do not come back from something like that as easily at that age and he is nothing like he was in the heady days of Leinster...

Edit....also announced before the game that he was picked for this game to make an emotional farewell to the Argentinian team so hope he is taken off with a huge ovation!!

The other sentence is fairly clear to what I'm saying there :p Tom Youngs can do one if he doesn't like it though, learn to throw you midget!

Eh? He said he was playing until the Rugby Championship ended (http://rugbyworldcup-argentina2023.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/felipe-contepomi-makes-himself.html). Not much he can do in this team regardless of age, remember they lost to France 49-10 last year.

Jeez 25-3 at ht, must say I'm not too clued in to Argie rugby, are these boys any good/first choice? The only name I recognise is Contemponi, and I thought he retired ages ago.

My God England can't put 1 minute of play together without making an error. This is unbelievably sloppy play.

Yeah, this is a poor start to the 2nd half by us fo' sho'

What a pass by Morgan!
Ship him out to Aus to replace Sexton?
Strettle really should have taken that

I expected Argentina to be better, and didn't expect England to be this good.

The commentators are all saying that this is it....and cannot see him being good enough to play in the Rugby Championship anyway....that would not only be a backward step but an insult to the up and coming centres......incidentally, that article also says he could possibly have made his european swansong against Leinster in the Amlin final when he was not eligible!!

Penalty penalty penalty. Lancaster said he was going to focus on discipline but this England side really don't have it. I don't see how this England side can be considered good, they are making so many basic errors, it's just the Argie team is even worse.

They have certainly not been good at all when the pressure has come on and this is partly because they switched off over their half time tea instead of being professional and come out with the attitude that the score was 0-0..........bit like watching, and as useful as, the Lions against the BaaBaas to be honest!

no, there is obviously quality in this England squad too, don't be too hard on your nation.

Debatable, he hasn't declined in ROG fashion and could still be of use. Roncero ended up being of use last year in similar circumstances. Scored 2 tries in one of his last Top 14 games, and was named man of the match in the win over Racing and I've still seen him do quality touches like this of late. Argentina don't have up and coming centres it's a pretty weak position for them, in fact another centre who could be around the squad for the RC is Gonzalo Tiesi who the stats say has missed as many tackles as he has made. The others are Santiago Fernandez and Marcelo Bosch, hardly outstanding options, in fact the latter was mostly a utility back who hardly made a poor Biarritz backline. I'm pretty sure this is not his last game, and that he will be available for next week and the time being.

And as I said this team lost 49-10 to France last year. So this match is hardly unprecedented considering the lineup without 24 or so European based players.
