June Internationals: Argentina v England, First Test (08/06/13)

Twice as many penalties as Argentina...

EDIT And there we go... **** sake England threw away any chance of getting anything this second half through terrible discipline.

Debatable, he hasn't declined in ROG fashion and could still be of use. Roncero ended up being of use last year in similar circumstances. Scored 2 tries in one of his last Top 14 games, and was named man of the match in the win over Racing and I've still seen him do quality touches like this of late. Argentina don't have up and coming centres it's a pretty weak position for them, in fact another centre who could be around the squad for the RC is Gonzalo Tiesi who the stats say has missed as many tackles as he has made. The others are Santiago Fernandez and Marcelo Bosch, hardly outstanding options, in fact the latter was mostly a utility back who hardly made a poor Biarritz backline. I'm pretty sure this is not his last game, and that he will be available for next week and the time being.

And as I said this team lost 49-10 to France last year. So this match is hardly unprecedented considering the lineup without 24 or so European based players.

Happy to be proved wrong but hope that he does not end his career playing as badly as he has here.....he deserves far, far better and he will surely meet better teams than this in SA/NZ and Aus if he were to do it! He has hardly run this game and seems to have only shipped the ball on.......

I agree about Bosch as watched a lot of him and he was just not interested over the last couple of years and especially after he returned from last seasons SH championship when all he wanted to do was to try and do it all himself......very selfish and pretty poor altogether....was happy to see the back of him and hope he makes the Sarries first team as he will surely weaken them!!

Good try for binny, and good to Henry get his first cap and the scrum not crumble with him on :D

Disappointing 2nd half, much to work on.
Amazed Wade didn't get on the bored! Needs to be more selfish
Think I saw him hit more rucks (and give away no penalties) in this game than Ashton has in his career.

Wilson, Webber, Attwood, Launchbury, Kvesic, Wood, Morgan, 36, Wade, Brown, Binny and Foden all played well.

Second half was disappointing, even though I can sympathise.

Also good to see that Morgan is still improving his conditioning, was looking in great shape today!

It will be interesting to see whether some of the Pumas being rested are brought in for the second test in Buenos Aires

Agree with all that bar Brown who I thought did not.....he positively threw away a try when he had Wade outside him but hung on to the ball for too long.....also thought Joseph should be included in that list!!

That question is answered already. They're not. Different squad for June to the Rugby Championship.

The agreement with the European clubs is that a player who plays for a club in Europe is not allowed to play for Argentina in both June and the Rugby Championship.

Postives: More forward drive than previous England teams, not playing forwards only rugby, some nice offloading

Negatives: TERRIBLE discipline, sloppy basics, excessive kicking when you are able to cause a lot more damage keeping possession, problems finishing, sometimes slow to get ball out of unsafe rucks and when there is a lot of momentum meaning there is no reason to slow it down.

Overall I feel this England side has good potential but they are going to get a rude awakening the second they come up against a half decent team. I said it in their previous game and it's the same here, they are making some serious errors that better teams will punish them for. If they had got the basics right and not been giving away very easy penalties every 5 mins they could easily have got a 50+ score.

On the whole, a good performance. First half was 9/10 rugby. Second half was sloppy. It's sometimes easy to look good going forward against weaker opposition, but Kvesic really stepped up in those times where the game resembled a real test match, where England didn't have a clear upper hand. His work in our defensive 1/3 of the field was superb.

Morgan and Launchbury showed why they are first-choice for England, Twelvetrees and Wade showed why they probably should be first choice for England.

Burns looked a little shackled to me but I thought he stepped up in attacking opportunities. Would like to see him play more of his natural game in the next test.

My changes would be May in for Strettle and Foden in for Brown (just to try another option).

If we could replay this tour and pick different players, I don't rate Marler at all and think Wood should be third-choice loosehead. Care and Simpson/Robson instead of Dickson and Wigglesworth too.

I was very happy with that tonight, Wade and 36 were amazing. Burns could have played better but he kicked very well and took the gain line on nicely. I really hope SL takes this sort of attacking side forward, players like Goode and Barritt stifle our backline, obviously our Lions should get back in (except Farrell and maybe Croft) but it was a decent showing. Discipline let us down badly in the second half but we still should have scored a good few tries, I think if Ben Youngs had played today it would have gone much better too but all in all it was a great success.

Doesn't seem to be available on iPlayer and I can't find a highlights program on the schedule... Anyone know if there are any on the internet anywhere?
