June Internationals: Argentina v England, First Test (08/06/13)

The point is that several of the players who are being "rested" have actually been dropped.
Bar the Lions players, Robshaw and Care this is likely what a full strength team would look like right now.
And that this is the team that would have played, regardless of who our opposition is.
Our team during the autumn and 6n was hardly the finished article, despite the length of time they had been together.
The insult taken is completely unfounded.

England is going to take two tough losses, and they will think 2 times before returning with an alternate team to Argentina.

haha, yeah but Argentina isn't exactly playing their best squad either...

The only choice would not to have turned up and one wonders with the chanting of your leader why they did!!! but they have paid the rugby supporters of your country some tribute in bringing the best players available and even then you grumble.....get over it!!

errrr....excuse me ? England BETTER bring the best they've got not selected for the Lions, for their own good if they want to be competitive at all. It's Argentina (granted, not full strength) they're playing here; you speak of it as if England were doing the Argies a favor or smt ! Like, should Argentina thank them or smt ?!

But back onto the actual plot; the match: England may bring an alternate team and Arg somewhat theirs, but they've more depth than Argentina...and HOW OLD IS CONTEPOMI, GODDAMN !!!!!!

Hmmm it will be interesting to see how they go then. You're saying that if England played the All Blacks this weekend and none of their Lions were available, Burns would be the starting first five? This is a very young team - I'd expect a guy like Flood would help immensely due to his experience. Burns gets talked up a lot, I can't help but think he might just be the next Danny Cipriani, Farrell etc. Will have to wait and see!

He may do but I'd be surprised. Cipriani copped a massive injury and turned out to be a cock. Farrell was limited from the start. Burns seems to have Cipriani's technical and running talent but with a great deal more desire and steel. I don't think Burns and Flood have both been fit at the same time yet, but there's no question they're very close in Lancaster's estimation. We'd have probably had Flood on the bench in our strongest team, but I'mnot sure he's even fit.

Strettle/Wade are both better than Ashton at the moment, Twelvetrees offers a huge amount more than Barritt in attack. Kvesic could overtake Robshaw very rapidly, he's a more genuine 7 and a better athlete - and Robshaw ended the season in very indifferent form, I'm sure he'd have loved to have played but this is the right call. Danny Care is the only one I'm narked about the absence of, both in the sense of winning the match, and that we're not developing a genuine talent in his absence. That's it.

And it was posted in the squad speculation thread that his would always be an Argentine development squad, so apparently they did make that move first. Regardless, due to returning players and Lancaster's oddness, this is arguably as strong a side as we put out in the Six Nations - I'd have gone with stronger until Corbs went surfing in Oz.

Whats everyone going on about, this is a very good England team and one lots of people have been calling for. How can a team with Morgan, Wood, Burns, 36, Launchbury, Strettle, Wade and Brown be considered second choice? apart from the Lions, Robshaw, Care and possibly Flood who else is there?

^ for sure. That's why I think England totally have the advantage on paper, even in an away game.

Is 36 Twelvetrees?? I'm never sure...

EDIT: Peat beat me.

Also agreed with Tallshort. I wouldn't call this an England second team. Maybe more of a "1.5 team" - half the team are players who are second in their position, half the team are really players who are best in their position (even if they aren't selected there normally!).

Argentina has to rest their player due to commitments with the French and English clubs. It's not ideal but for now it's the best alternative we have. That said, with bustos, bustos moyano, tiesi, galarza, vergallo, this squad is slightly better than last year.
I feel embarrassed about the other argie commenting here. England designed their squad accordingly. Should be an even match. I think they split the series.

Yup. Geordan Murphy called him it, as twelve trees is thirty-six in an Irish accent.

Could you explain?? :p When I do a (admittedly terrible) faux Irish accent I don't get thirty six out of twelve trees?

In an Irish accent "th" becomes "t", so Twelve Threes becomes Twelve trees, and twelve threes are 36.
I think rather than Murphy calling him it, it was the rest of the Leicester Tigers squad who called him 36 to take the Mick out how Murphy said it.

Oh Durr - sorry, should have worked that one out. Cheers.

Was sitting in front of my computer saying Twelvetrees for a whole minute. Thinking no it doesn't sound like 36 how the **** does that happen? I've heard Murphy speak it's not a strong accent or weird enough to get 36 from that. So now I feel like an idiot cause I already knew the full story! It's too early.

In fairness I am often accused of never pronouncing my th's.

After France, Lions, Scotland (got bored with that), Italy (F1 Qualifying got in the way) it's now England and really looking forward to seeing this team and have forgone Britains Got Talent!!

Bloody hell BBC have Welsh presenter and Davies and the talk is all about what happened in Cardiff.........

Jiffy's called Billy and Mako "Vainikolo" repeatedly in the build up to this.
Yeesh

And, of course, we have another Welshman as commentator in Butler....at least we are saved from listening to Jiffys voice throughout the match!!
