England v New Zealand

During the game SBW had some glimpse of brilliancy but for the rest he didn't do that much. I know it was his first game on this level but alto Smith hasn't got the same power as SBW he is more involved in the game ( meaning having the ball more often) and creating more opportunities.

Keeping in mind too that England said before the game that they would be targeting Carter, Nonu and Williams. With an extra emphasis on Williams. He did very well for his debut so I can't wait to see what he will produce with a bit more space.

On that point, I'm very surprised the All Blacks didn't stand the backline deeper. They knew England's tactics before the game and the should have adjusted to that.

It;s not wise or strategically efficient too have too many battering rams like Nonu/SBW. I think if anything, it will be a SBW & Conrad pairing, with Nonu covering wing and centre off the bench.

That will all depend on how well he can cover 12 at test level. You could be right.

Well I believe that he shares the same qualities as Nonu (strong, runs straight, solid defender) but I believe he can do them on another level. I think if he can sharpen his distribution/decision (which comes with experience - providing he doesn't up and leave after the RWC win or lose) then he can be a top notch test level number 12 (taking over Nonu) and eventually pairing with Fruean.

With the kind of money being offered I don't believe he'll stick around till 2012. If for arguments sake the All Blacks win the Bledisloe, Tri Nations and then the World Cup next year I'm sure his thinking would be that he had achieved everything possible in an All Black jumper so why not take the money? He did it with the Bulldogs after all.

Wow, that was quite a tight game in the end - I was certainly getting nervous at times. I was impressed with England's attacking attitude - if they could get a couple of creative centres (Flutey may fit that bill when he is fit), I think the could be even more effective. The English defensive line was also very impressive, coming at real speed and putting a huge amount of pressure on the AB's. Consistently getting penalised at scrum time seemed to really disrupt the AB's, but it was good for a change that it wasn't the AB lineout that looked under pressure.

The standout English forwards for me were Dan Cole and Nick Easter, both seemed to be everywhere around the field, while I was impressed by Youngs, Ashton, and Foden in the backs.

For me the standout AB forward was Sam Whitelock - he was outstanding around the field, and was great a lineout time. Hopefully he gets some more starts on tour, as he really is an outstanding young player. I thought Read had another strong game, he is just so consistent now. Mathewson looked good on his starting debut, making a few wee breaks around the rucks, and distributed well. I thought SBW had a good debut, breaking the odd tackles, making a few offloads, and he did look very solid defensively. Gear had a great game all round, while Rococoko and Muliana had very mixed games - Rococoko did a lot of work, but did drop the ball twice, threw a horrible pass to SBW, and made the poor kick that eventually lead to Hartleys try, meanwhile Muliaina made a nice break and a few good clearing kicks, but did make more than a few aimless kicks through.

You're probably right.
Hopefully we have players that will stick around post-RWC. If not, I hope the NZRU make some sort of concession regarding overseas eligibility.

I'm not sure about that myself. The best rugby is played in the south and we've seen with players like Luke McAlistar how the northern game can drastically affect their speed and skill. And although they might be playing well in the north the selectors can't effectively assess the quality of their game to their counterparts in the south because the game styles in both hemispheres are so different. It's a tough line to draw certainly.

That is true. Same with Chris Jack.

DC came back fine though. But that may be a whole different story.

Yeah but he only played part of the season before he was injured (Which is where Donald came into the side for last year's Tri Nations)

"...I think..."

The All Black foward pack isn't in too bad a position. The main problem going into 2012 will be establishing the wc backline. It should be: Weepu, Carter, Nonu, Williams, Gear, Jane, Muliaina. With Mattewson, Fruen and Slade and as cover.

Smith won't get a look in after SBW establishes a foothold, Rokocoko is over the hill, Toeava is a waste of space, Cowan's too slow and Stephen Donald is Stephen Donald.
What a joke. Smith is the best Center in the world. Don't talk ****.

As someone who plays in the front row, I can tell you that the penalties given to the All Blacks were guess work at best. Please try and type like you're not an idiot.

No nick, it wasn't guesswork. Mr Poite is a graduate of the "Stu Dickinson School of Scrum Management", which basically teaches "..if you have no idea who the culprit is, just penalise the visiting team and keep the home fans off your back!"

Best centre in the world? Hardly. Not with the likes of Brian O'Driscoll still in the mix.

I never said he wasn't a good player. Read my post again.

And at this rate so too could be Stephen Donald, but that doesn't mean it's the best option.

Alright, let me clarify then. He will be one of the first names on the teamsheet because he is one of the very top rugby players in the country. Rugby isn't all about highlight plays and being flashy, Conrad Smith is the best 13 in the world. Do yourself a favour and watch him more closely, the little things he does is absolutely vital for the team.

I, and many others (including the odd Irish person), would say Conrad Smith is far and away the best center in the world at the moment. He has the best rugby brain around. I have the feelling you like players who are 6'5, 100+ kg and fancy. Fact of the matter is, Smith doesn't make a mistake, ever. Last time Brain O'Driscoll and Smith met earlier in the year, Smith showed how good he is. To say he is only as good as he is because of Nonu is idiotic.

On a different note, I noticed Mike Tindall gave Sonny Bill Williams his jersey, and Dan Cole and Owen Franks swapped jersey's and had a talk in the changing room. I see Cole and Franks having a great deal of test matches together, with Cole only being six months older, and both looking like the best up and coming props.

Brian is an exciting centre, Conrad is a hungry centre and Sonny is a new centre. Those 3 are good players but if you asked me who the best centre in the world right now is, I'd tell you there is none, they're all good in their own way.
