Aviva Premiership Round 6

Anti climactic finish. Sarries scrum hugely wobbling. Henson looked okay - he's a better 10 then 12 apparently.

Most concerning was de knocks injury, looked serious.

de Kock was back on his feet and shaking hands in the tunnel after the game, which was good to see.

Anyone explain the ref decision to just blow the whistle? A collapsed scrum from a penalty surely has to be re-set?

The penalty is "done" (for want of a better word) once the scrum is called. The drop resulted in a free kick which couldn't be taken as time was up.

Gave sarries a cheats charter, but it was Welshs call. I think they should have had the lineout first time round.

Are you sure that's correct? I've seen scrums last over the 40 or 80 before and a dropped scrum has always resulted in a re-set. A re-set scrum is different from awarding another free kick I thought.

I have personally never seen that happen before, and I think the ref got it wrong.

Law 5.7(e): If time expires and the ball is not dead, or an awarded scrum or lineout has not been
completed, the referee allows play to continue until the next time that the ball becomes
dead.
The ball becomes dead when the referee would have awarded a scrum, lineout, an
option to the non-infringing team, drop out or after a conversion or successful penalty kick
at goal. If a scrum has to be reset, the scrum has not been completed. If time expires and a
mark, free kick or penalty kick is then awarded, the referee allows play to continue

Shame because at the rate the Welsh were going, they'd have probably got a penalty try. It looked to me as if the last scrum was Sarries collapsing first. One more and the ref would have to give a PT. Would be upset as a Welsh fan.

Against Bizkaia Gernika RT? Are you sure you're ready to take them on? :p

Just seen the highlights of the London Welsh game, not going to lie, thought the ref was very harsh on Welsh. That scrum at the end you could see Saracens just folding in and collapsing it. But there we are. Oh ... Hensons pass for Welsh second try was something else.

Good result. The performance left a lot to be desired, but I guess they're on an up at the moment so we should be happy with the win. We really shouldn't have let them back into the game after the hour though. I thought the ref had a very good game as it happened.

Still think Welsh will struggle to stay up. They're on a good run of form, but I don't know where else they're going to pick up wins. I fully expect Sale to turn this around eventually, and when they do Welsh will begin the inevitable slide towards the bottom of the heap.

Oh, and Charlie Hodgson was far better than Chavin Henson.

Ref was not great at times, his officiating in periods left much to be desired especially at scrum time. Saracens were very lucky in that department, many of the 50/50 decisions at times went to Saracens.

Welsh shouldn't struggle. They play a good brand of rugby and have ran teams close ... only have to look at today. They will pick up wins, don't you worry about that. Considering the time Lyn Jones had to build this squad ... he's doing a pretty remarkable job.

Just watched the highlights now as was tracking it when in the pub earlier watching some of the football, at the end based off the hand signals it looked like the ref went to stand them up to reset the scrum then just blew the whistle as they were getting up :/

Either way if Welsh play like that they should pick up a few more wins to be fair and stay up.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvv!!!!!

What Stuart Barnes, Pat Sanderson and Will Greenwood reckon is Sale's problem early season. Passive rucking allowing the opposition to get quick ball and control the game.

That's what you get when you play James Gaskell at blindside.
Was much better with Vernon vs Tigers.
Does (did) look like they didn't want to commit to the breakdown because they wanted to keep as many men in the defensive line as they could.

Blues match this weekend is massive for us now - we looked better vs Tigers, so hopefully we can push on from that and start building some confidence.
