Aviva Premiership - Round 20

I forgot Wiggy (scrum half, not Graham Rowntree) was with your crowd. Didn't he win the Premiership with you?
Yup! Came up through the academy, and we won the final with him and Ben Foden as our scrum halves!
Moved on after Philippe Saint Andre signed Dwayne Peel and he was getting less and less time (PSA specifically told him that Peel was first choice and Wiggy would only ever be a backup).

Foden as a nine.

*shudders*

In other news, this game is a corker!

Quins get a penalty try! Smashing!

On mobile so can't edit that last post sorry...

Have to say I applaud Wigglesworth for awarding the PT.
Much like in the Blues/Hurricanes game this morning, where a first-offence-PT was given, I like to see a referee back himself like this. Quins would've marched over, so award the PT and get on with it, rather than reset scrums for 15mins.

Gloucester are playing a fly-half that is normally an inside centre, an inside centre that is normally an outside centre, an outside centre that is normally a winger and a winger that is normally a fullback.

Yeah got to agree. I know there is usually a few scrums before a PT is given but it was so obvious a tries would have been scored...

Also, Ayerza popped out as part of that scrum. Sinckler in beast mode?

Thoughts so!

Rats, if you're watching this game, what is it that makes Sinckler so good at the scrum? I'm terrible at analysing front rows. All I know is he is winning.

EDIT: Sinckler now getting a bit roughed up. Commentators are, however, spouting rubbish about how he's been on loan at Ealing and had very little top level game time. I WISH he'd been at Ealing a lot!

I love Dave Ward.
Would happily take him over Tom Youngs on the bench for England.

Edit:
This TMO is terrible.
He somehow thought that it would be a 22 drop out, not a 5m scrum.
That should've been a penalty against Brown for tackling Flood off the ball/after the whistle.

He also keeps moving his microphone away from his mouth so Wigglesworth can't hear him.

Dave Ward is mining a very deep vein of form this season. Grey's injury seems to have allowed him to flourish.

I think Flood actually fell into Brown and they got dragged down together. No need for Brown to go nose to nose and death stare him though.

Mental period of play then.
Massive break from Tuilagi, think Quins were lucky not to get a yellow at the ruck after. Gibson try after two quick taps.

That should've been a red for Robson. Right decision for the yellow on Matera, but you can't run in, from behind, with a swinging arm to the jaw of a player.
Also that reversed penalty should've been reversed again, ending up with a Tigers penalty

Two quick taps has left me in rage...

Two yellows just handed out. Tip tackle on Ward see's Matera sent off, Robson came in with a 'swinging arm' during the afters. Might be my Quins bias but I think Robson has been unlucky.

Wrigglesworth also gave Quins the resulting penalty when I think it should have been Tigers. Not complaining but I think it shows he's struggling a bit in another very passionate game a week after the west country derby.

Quins got the win and deserved it.

But the officials were shocking. Wigglesworth needs to be dropped to the championship.

I think Wrigglesworth greatest strength and weakness as a ref is that he backs himself completely. Last week I though all his cards were spot on and he was absolutely right in how consistent he was about giving them.

This week, I think only Matera really deserved the card while at times he looked like he was feeling the pressure. I don't know about dropping him but he should officiate a less intense game next round. He's got to be feeling it after the week he's had!

Could someone point out the difference between what Matera did to Ward(?) and what Brown did to flood that was boys will be boys.

I assume Matera wasn't classed as a tip tackle as it should of been a red if it was imo.

I'm assuming it was classed as a dangerous tackle, I think thats what he said.

With Brown, as far as I saw they both got carried offer in the general comotion surrounding trying to get the ball. Brown certainly didn't lift Flood up. Obviously he then got in Floods face on the floor which doesn't make him look that innocent I admit.

Obviously I haven't had a chance to to watch it back, and wont for at least another day, but it seems fairly clear cut. One was a dangerous tackle, another was not.
