A Political Thread pt. 2

Is anyone still on Twitter/X?

I really enjoy it for sport and random memes but in the last couple weeks it's gone from very intolerant and right wing to openly fascist. Multiple posts trying to portray the Nazis as the good side of WWII.

This is Elon's platform that Trump has very recently decided he should return to. Incredibly worrying.
I started getting the pro-Nazi WWII a few days ago.

It's as if there's been some change to the algorithm (probably to favour Trump and conservative-minded supporters) but as a result this stuff is being pushed.

Not sure that's a good thing for the Democrats
It's not like these people are actually converting to being Democrats, they are supporting Democrats for as long as it takes to get MAGA out of power, then they will flip right back to being Republican. It is a marriage of convenience as at the moment the top priority of both camps is the same.

What an utterly pointless article. 1) She's stating the obvious. 2) Other BBC editors have already written the same thing. 3) It worked for the Tories for many years, so Labour have still got plenty of mileage in them.
Just look at the author of the article, she is completely partisan. I'm not happy with the direction Labour have taken on some major issues so far but the staggering double standards between how Labour are treated in the media and the Tories could not be more blatant. To think the right wing have the nerve to act like the mainstream media does them over, they actually get preferential treatment the majority of the time.

Flicking over for the start of the soccer at HT of the rugby. All the anti immigration scumbags* in England passionately support a football team that are all either black or Irish with the exception of Pickford. Shows how stupid this current trend is.

We have them too but aren't as multi cultural as the UK for obvious reasons.

And how dare our Icelandic manager not sing our anthem!

Texas Sues for Access to Records of Women Seeking Out-of-State Abortions

The lawsuit takes aim at federal privacy rules, including one enacted this year that Ken Paxton, the state attorney general, called "a backdoor attempt at weakening Texas' laws."

Texas has sued to block federal rules that prohibit investigators from viewing the medical records of women who travel out of state to seek abortions where the procedure is legal.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in Federal District Court in Lubbock, targets medical privacy regulations that were issued in 2000, and takes aim at a rule issued in April that specifically bans disclosing medical records for criminal or civil investigations into "the mere act of seeking, obtaining, providing or facilitating reproductive health care."

Texas bans abortions in almost all circumstances. Women are not subject to criminal prosecution for obtaining abortions, but state law imposes penalties of as much as life in prison for those who aid in obtaining abortions.

The lawsuit claims that the privacy rules ignore federal law that lets states view medical records "for law enforcement purposes."

Suing the government to ensure that Texan law extends to places not covered by Texan law...

Going to be another train wreck. I have a bad feeling Harris is just going to get steamrollered.

I'm in the States now. Some local news media seem to think he's going to try and bait her with insults and that she's going to be fact checking his lies throughout the debate and pushing him on his convictions and abortion. I'm sure there'll be a lot of scripted attack lines.

Microphones will be muted while the other is speaking so he won't be able to talk over her. He's pushing himself as the change agent. Polls are tight but I just feel her appeal isn't strong enough and that people in swing states might be swayed into thinking they'll be better off financially under him - which seems to be people's main concern.

Trouble with this, is that he'll still talk all over her, and be a distraction, it just won't be known to the audience.

I am. Don't post but use it to read. Mostly sports but politics and economics, too. Used to be so leftwing that i guess any change in the opposite direction will look like a bit like what you describe. I mean, i cant help but to recall the debate between Dorsey, Twitter's CLO, Tim Pool and Rogan about this.
Add a bit of pendulum effect and you've got something.

My main complain is the number of bot followers i get every day. And it's not like they happen to be targeted adds of some sort. They are overwhelmingly related to topics i don't give a **** about, like bitcoin, or porn.

There's a pendulum effect but I have seen posts that are straight up glorifying Hitler. Hasn't been as bad in the past few days however.

I have so, too. Quite a few actually. But to be honest, the overwhelming majority of the ones i came across were retweets of people exposing them and calling the poster a moron, making fun of him or ridiculing him.

Would you rather have those opinions censored? I wouldn't.
For two reasons: Morally, i believe they should have the right to say that, as much as i despise their opinion. And practically, i don't think censoring/deleting/suspending/banning works. They wont change their mind that way. They will either keep it to themselves (and still act accordingly) or talk about it in places you and i wont visit. AND they get to play the victim card. I'd much rather have them out in the open. And if others don't want to hear about it, we have tons of options (blocking, muting, muting words, phrases, themes, etc.). Not perfect, sure, but beats the alternative in my book.

I was 100 times more worried about platforms banning people because of things like misgendering than i am now of some nutjobs saying Churchill was the bad guy in WWII.

I'm more concerned about Musk's algorithm pushing it onto my feed. I went back through posts I interact with (like, I don't post) and it's 95% sport, humour and music and 5% north of Ireland politics. No history, no fascism etc... It seems malicious to me, especially coupled with the rubbish that Musk tweets himself.

I just wanted twitter to be the people I followed. Basically just old friends and some sports humor accounts. When the algorithm got involved it just ruined it for me. I don't want 100 different content creators showing up on my feed.
