A Political Thread pt. 2

So it turns out that, when Sunak was chancellor, he was approached and told the dept of education needed enough funding to replace approx 300-400 schools per year and got 1/3rd of the required funding. There really isn't dodging round this, whilst it is a long term issue, Sunak exacerbated it by refusing to fund the needed repairs. This was then cut to 50 schools per year. Sunak then presented this as a positive, the fact he was putting up the funding for 1/8th the schools needed. He's neck deep in this.

Also bit of a hot mic moment, the Tories expecting praise for this:

It's no wonder they stopped making "the thick of it". It was too close to reality. His accountant like mind was thinking on this one I imagine. It's something a lot of people working in money don't understand. They make themselves look good by saving money here and now, but in the long term (usually when they're gone) it has massive repercussions and ends up costing far more then what they saved.

My made up investigation is looking pretty accurate eh? 😂

The writers gave up realising the drugs they'd need to take to imagine and write scripts that just keep up with what was actually happening never mind a more extreme version wouldn't be good for their health.

They know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

The question to put this type in their place is - "do you know the cost of not doing it?"

You'd also require representation of the the trade unions Unite, Unison etc.

Er, no...

What specialist expertise does Unite or Unison represent?

They aren't the iMechE, they aren't the RCN, or the RAeS (to name 3).

The purpose of the house of professionals is not to represent people or workers, its to bring proper expertise into the system*.

*some would ignorantly claim thats the job of the civil service. But, given their appalling internal processes, they are never going to be experts in anything beyond wastage.

Good bit of business for B & M. Still if they think they can just turn them into B & M shops on the high street they are just repeating the mistake of Wilko. The high street is dying for shopping and business rates need major reform.

Last month we announced the Professional Enablers Taskforce, which will increase enforcement action against those lawyers and legal representatives, who help migrants abuse the immigration system.
Those lawyers found to be coaching migrants on how to remain in the country by fraudulent means will face a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
Life imprisonment. For giving dodgy immigration advice.

You can defraud a pension fund of any amount of money and never get a life sentence. You can launder money for a drug smuggler for decades and never get a life sentence. I could go on.

Yes, I understand that it's unlikely that this would ever be a default or even common sentence for this proposed offence. But the idea that this government is willing to stand up in Parliament and declare something that is, at worst, professional malpractice to be a crime equivalent to the most serious offences on the books - murder, armed robbery, rape, kidnapping - is nuts.

Surely, it's on par with tax avoidance, which is taking advantage of the system. If the corrupt MPs in parliament can avoid tax, surely the same can be said for immigrants avoiding deportation.

Sunak can rot in hell. Tories STILL trying to blame Labour for their own failings.

I just can't listen to him anymore. The tories blame everyone but themselves and carry on like it's okay. When do they ever take responsibility? They never face any repercussions for the horrible stuff they do. They just get to walk out the job and carry on like nothing happened.

If any of us messed up this badly at work, we'd get the boot and probably face legal action. This lot? Nothing. They just carry on smiling.

Usually I'd say if you're uniting all parties in the north against something you're doing something right but not on this one. This is only of benefit to murderers from the British Army and Paramilitaries and the House of Lords so they can just make one very big bad decision rather than a sequence of slightly smaller ones. Desperate, desperate move by Westminster.

Labour shadow chancellor about a year ago: We must change the tax system, tax the wealthy more etc etc
Labour shadow chancellor now: How about no?

The Tories are absolutely crap and need to go out but bloody hell Labour are only getting in by merit of not being the Tories but merely Tory light. They really need to be doing more to put out policies to actually get people positively voting for them rather than just against the Tories. I fear it will be like the Lib Dems when they got into coalition, enacting Tory policies and the left wing will turn on them whilst the right wing will vote Tory and the Tories come straight back in. The country is going down the toilet and nobody at the top seems all that interested in actually tackling any of the problems properly.
