A Political Thread pt. 2

With Starmers lead in the polls and if that continues whilst in power he's never going shoot himself in the foot.

Equaly he's rowed back on so many things, tuition fees, wealth taxes etc this isn't a surprise.
He might just be keeping his head down till they get in, but it's getting absurd now. He's turned on so many issues I'm sure what he stands for other then a continuation of the mess we're in.

This mess is going to takes years to fix and that's even if Labour are willing to fix it.

Heading this right now in the hotel, chimay bleu

Backed of course by people who would never do it or last five seconds but have watched a lot of war movies.

In all fairness to her, her dads an ex para and she's ex Royal Navy. She did a reasonable bit with veterans reunited. I think she's one of the better one's.

Not really. Still stood, voted for and watched as this country fell apart due to her parties behaviour and desire to help their friends instead of us. If she did care, she would do something about it. The lot need kicking out including her.

I include people like Dominic Grieve and Rory Stewart in that. They might have stood against them on Brexit, but was quite happy to vote for them on many issues that lead to it. It's a bit late in the day to see the pile of brown you've made and agree with the other side that it smells.

Shapps is clearly just boosting his CV with yet another cabinet role which allows him to network even more and make a fortune after leaving Government with all the contacts he'll have made. Talk about ministerial recycling - they'll be at net zero at this rate.

So what's the option kick out the Labour MP's who voted for the withdrawl agreement as well. Don't vote Starmer who's not rowing back on Brexit to appease the Brexit voting red wall seats? Labour lost 52 leave seats and now needs them back. Starmer and co were anti-Brexit but they won't do a thing to change it I'm sure.

It's a crap situation, but unfortunately I'll probably have to hold my nose and vote labour and push as hard as we can to get a much needed change to the system. AV or PR would be better than this broken mess. Said it before, but Starmer is in the wrong party.

I'm lucky in a sense that my local MP is not right wing and is actually good.

And after not investing in school buildings in the last 13 years it's come to this.

1st April 2020 [fools day indeed]

HSE said published Feb 2021 - according to gov.uk December 2022. Tend to believe HSE's date.

So, from the initial report its just the 3 years 4 months. From the subsequent guidance its a mere 2 years 6 months... or an utterly miniscule 8 months if you believe the government (I don't).

But the government decide on the day before September to start issuing closure notices.

If that were a private business, every f**kwit in whitehall and westminster involved in that would be walking down to the bru office next week.

edit: It gets better.

In late 2018.....

Apparently it's just over 100 schools which will either have to move/shut buildings or teach online when term starts next week.

But the DfE has not given a timeline for replacing the material, which was used until the mid-90s.
Ms Keegan said the government was taking a "cautious approach", and that "over the summer a couple of cases have given us cause for concern".

I believe this bit is an outright lie.

If (as I do believe) its the two HSE cases she's referring to, they have been known about for at least 2 years. If its not the two HSE cases, then where are the documented reports on them?

If labour or journalists were competent, they'd already be question how her timelines are 2 years out of sync with known available evidence.

This has been a known issue for decades, but one of those on the pile to be dealt with 'when it becomes a problem'.

CROSS reports don't get issued on a whim. These are created when a structural engineer raises concerns about something they've seen, this gets reviewed by the committee and if they agree the concerns are valid especially where there are wider implications, a report is published.

RAAC has been a major campaign for CROSS for several years, with general alerts being sent out alongside reports on specific failures.

The president of the IStructE was interviewed on the today programme about a few months ago and spoke very plainly about the issue and the potential dangers.

This is not new, it has been ignored to the point where school roofs have begun to collapse without warning. And the ignored for another 6 yrs after that.
