[2021 Six Nations] Wales vs England (27/02/21)

But it has to hit the ground or hit an opponent after it comes off the hand surely. At least thats how the law reads...confused by the way this law gets mis read if it comrs off the chest or head or leg its not a knock on ... especially when it goes backwards??
Its how Nigel Owens explained it, I think in terms of the knock on its deemed to have come off his hands after that he has to regather it before it hits the ground.

May definitely seems slower than he used to but I think that may be a combination of his quite serious injury a while back and the fact he seems to have bulked up. I'd say he's better now being slightly slower as what he has lost in outright pace he has more than gained in raw power. He never used to be able to bump anyone off when he started, now he can hit contact pretty well.

From what I've seen LRZ has a slight edge in raw pace but it would be interesting to see a sprint to the half way mark for both. Either way even if LRZ is faster, that doesn't mean May is now slow, he's still one of the faster wingers in the world.

Not what the law says...tbh i was disappointed with Nigel over this..saw him saying it on Scrum 5 and i thought it was odd then...more interestingly ... 2 forward passes in English tries plus consistent professional infringements by Otoje that never got yellow carded..these not discussed at all. 60 million cries of shame can easily drown 3 million pleas for justice ..lol

Well the ref and world rugby also agree with him now so no point in disagreeing.

I've actually got around to watching the incident now, yeah that knock on any day of the week anyone saying otherwise is trying to be 'clever' with the laws.

Not sure what clever with the laws means ...what does the law say about accidental knock on.??

But past their prime they lose pace quicker than someone heading towards their prime.

I may be old school but I'm actually disappointed that a top ref retired or not would publicly dissect another referees decision. I thought that referees would have an unwritten code of conduct.

Free kick because a deliberate ones a penalty...are you trying to be a WUM?

Look Welsh folks WR and the ref says he got them wrong that should basically be the end of it no.

The law says that when the ref has a discussion with the ref panel boss and admits he was wrong, it is a knock on !
Especially when the FFR is under great scrutiny for some slight issues with the safety bubble, so Pascal has admitted he has been a naughty boy and won't do that again. He promised !

...okay I now believe its a waste of time talking to you if the ref himself admitting to making mistakes isn't enough nothing will be.
Very true - although they weren't mistake IMO he clearly knew what he was doing. He knew the time on wouldnt give England time to regroup. For the 2nd try he 'told' the TMO that the onfield decision was a try. So how come he now knows it was a knock on when the TMO clearly said it was legit? Is he overruling the TMO without the benefit of all the technology that was available during the game and probably after having seen it on youtube? He is making it up he is saying he made mistakes; but at the time he was 100% sure of what he was doing. He wouldnt listen to Farrell and walked away from him when he knew Farrell was making valid points?
He has been told to come out and apologise for the good of World Rugby - and his prize (or rather his punishment) is to officiate on the line at an England game! Its a stitch up. Its more see through than the emperors new clothes.

May on the other hand looks like he's lost a yard, would be interested to see how he compares to Watson who I always thought has pretty stellar acceleration.
Interestingly Watson's admitted in the past that JJ is actually faster than him. Watson's undeniably an outrageously fast man but I think his much more frantic, explosive style of sprinting makes him look faster than he is while the way JJ almost glides when in full flight makes him look a bit slower.

cant keep up that well . I am in work , but by going to the tmo he took "advice" , tmo at fault not ref , and the adams try .I think the ref thought that biggar would kick for touch in the corner so time would not be an issue
My question is how can he now come out and say the TMO was wrong without the benefit of the technology the TMO had at his fingertips on matchday? its a conspiracy. Has the TMO been reprimanded and given an England game as punishment too? :)

.

Very individual dependent. Bolt set his 100 and 200m WRs just before he turned 23. Linford Christie was 33 when he set his 100m PB. Athletics is littered with massively quick juniors like Lewis-Francis who didn't get any faster as seniors.

LRZ is incredibly quick, but without concentrating on sprint training I doubt he'll get much faster and over time injuries and the inevitable bulking up are likely to take an edge off. Not to mention the obvious - rugby players aren't specialist sprinters.

Showing my age a bit, but it was the same with Underwood and Guscott. I remember Underwood sprinting in for a try and Guscott gliding along next to him, looking effortless.

I actually think the ref thought that Biggar was going for the corner if I'm honest.
Would a tap free kick not have been better in that position? Almost in front of posts with some good rucking and the chance of a penalty try even?
