[2015 TRC] Australia v New Zealand in Sydney (08/08/2015)

Can't believe we won that - our reserves have been immense in every game. White and Toomua completely reversed all of Phipps **** influence. To be clear, I like Phipps, but he just looked WAY out of his depth.

I really don't see why All Black's supporters are having such a hard go at their team. Ok yes, some players didn't have their best game, but that is life. Losing one match ain't such a big deal considering it was a shortened tournament.

When you think about it 2 of the Australian's tries where from 5m out due to miss tackles and over running. For Kepu's try Read overran and left a gap, and for White's it was the same.

On the referee I thought Barnes was alright

I don't mind Barnes, he was fine imo.

The reason I'm so hard on the side is we're 1 game out form the tournament we spend years building towards and we're hanging on to players who aren't up to it and not letting the genuine best choices to play together and build their combinations, this is our biggest mistake before every single RWC and a huge catalyst to why we end up losing in them.

The Kiwis are so used to dominating us that losing a match inevitably makes them over-analyse their own otherwise incredible team. In a way they're like the Aussie public when the Kangaroos lose to the Kiwis - we just try to work out how WE could have played so poorly to let THEM win; we figure it can't have had anything to do with the opposition lol.

To be fair, the Kiwis have been more competitive than the Wallabies, but that tends to be the reaction here all the same.

We're shocking at the breakdown, get Ardie Savea in there for f**k sake.

Would he really have made the difference? I thought the problem was that ABs don't commit enough numbers to the breakdown. It's been part of AB's game plan for the last 3 years, it's just today the Wallabies exposed this area and also tightened up their scrum. Springboks did as well 2 weeks ago, but the change to uncontested strums changed that game. Chieka and co must have watched closely.

Can't remember the last time NZ conceded 2 tries as soft as Kepu's and White's. Read with responsibility in both. Next week will be a cracker. I'm hoping Aus put out a Xv that includes Skelton, Mumm, Pocock, Hooper, White, Toomua, AAC all together.

And how strong did Greg Holmes look at TH?!

Honestly didn't think that NZ played all that awfully. Disagree with your analysis that the Aussies were only okay and NZ were bad Kiwi. I think the Australian forward and backs were outstanding. The commitment, effort and awareness they all displayed kept the All Blacks cowed, as they would any other team in the world.

All of NZ, Ireland, Springboks, Aus and maybe England are capable of displays like that. Was more unsure about Aus as they clearly have the talent but was never sure if they'd click as a team like they did today. Glad I was proven wrong. Wide open world cup! Depending on next weekends results Aus might go in as second seed to NZ.

Are you guys serious?

This isn't an over-reaction this is a reaction of several games, starting with Samoa right through until now.

We have 1 ok game vs Argentina, but they were off the pace and it was in CHCH.

We have on going problems that I am attacking and Hansen is not addressing. Hopefully next week we see a different front row, because we can't go and play the NH teams with that front row.

Thats just pressure we were put under alot of pressure and cracked things compounded Dan didnt kick the ball 10 meters at a kick off "supposedly" and we find ourselves getting another advantage or penalty against us for something debateable then Aussie are on our line and score. I dunno what to make of that really. I think the ball went 10 meters but im not 100% on the rules on that one Read seemed to claim it just on or after the 10 meter line? I mean FFS thats pretty pedantic ****.

It didnt cost us the game but this is the sort of thing that went on that im ****** about from Barnes. Read pulls that move in near every game and he usually gets it right Carter must of done that kick a thousand times or more. The AB's just looked at barnes like WTF are you on mate....

Totally agree with you!

Those aren't what I'd call "harsh" calls though mate... and to be frank I couldn't believe White's and Kepu's tries. Softest defence I've seen from the ABs in a long while.

Overall a pretty bad game from New Zealand, Australia deserved there win. Too many of the ABs fell of tackle or were too slow. Going into this game i though Australia have a good chance of wining but expected a much better performance from NZ. Nehe played good on debut would like to see him play some game at full back during the pool for the RWC. I think that we were missing Ma'a for the game, too many errors from SBW. Carter also had an off day, personally as much as I like Beauden I think we should go with Lima as first five as he probably offers the most in terms of all round skills. DC is too slow and Beauden is too much of a liability when it comes to goalkicks.

I do think however this match will put as in good stead for the RWC. A loss here will show our boys that we are not unbeatable and hopefully kick us into gear. Also we need to look at our props come RWC to be shunted around like we were against an average Wallaby tight five was poor. Woodcock has hopefully played his last game, these days hes just too slow and makes a nuisance of himself in the backline

Sorry English guys commenting on this game, but if you don't think the Ab's played poorly this match then your standard of Rugby must be pretty low, two soft tries, poor tackling, poor kicking, knocked on every 5 minutes. We were WOEFUL to put it nicely, a few nice tries doesn't mean we played well, come on!! Stop circle jerking please.

Totally agree with you!

I think on another day NZ could have won and against most other teams NZ would have won, with that performance, just showed that AUS have said "We will be at the party" come WC..

I think Richie can stand up and take the blame a bit. Captains need to be the one who both get their team behind them, keep them with cool heads and help them through handling the pressure.

I know it's sacrilege to insult Mr. McCaw but pundits continually remind us that the best way to beat NZ is constant and unrelenting pressure for the 80. It's the leaders in the team who need to keep the team together and motivated (Think Johnson for England when they were 2 men down Vs NZ). I think picking out individuals to answer for that might be short sighted of me, however. He has proven to be a good captain before.

I wouldn't panic yet as an All Black and start offloading players and bringing in players who don't work in the system. NMS definitely deserves some time with the squad however.

What you mean the only game the ABs played at home o far this year? And they didn't blow away the three teams that they played away from home. Oh no!! Hence why playing away from home is hard in international rugby.

There was a **** load of advantage in both they were hardly soft tries they just looked that way in the end I reckon. Our defence is usually better than that but I did feel Australia got alot of help which led to those unusual tries. We put ourselves under pressure and then Barnes compounded it... People can call me whatever they like thats how I saw it.

Yeah well I suppose I generally feel like all the penalties that the Roosters cop are BS, but I know I'm far from impartial

Take no notice of him Blindside. He does not know the rules yet pontificates on the injustice of the ref and bear in mind the time of night in NZ!!

Anyway, congratulations to Australia, they have looked good this RC and have a good team going into the RWC, hope they do well in their group of "death".

Are you getting me and Austin mixed up?
