This past year he has been great with his boot, look back to Australia last year, Youngs's kicking was brilliant.

Well since his passing game is on par with Davey Wilsons', not being able to kick either would be a bit of a hammer blow for a scrum half :lol:
(or maybe that's just how we role in England)

I might say the same thing. The length and placement of Youngs' box-kicking is one of the big differences that got him back into this squad ahead of Care. He's been an acknowledged good kicker for a good year or so.

The criticism of Youngs' technical skills has become massively hyperbolic and a perpetuating myth for my money.

I think Youngs' kicking has been pretty damn good, it's the strength that got him into the squad.

Robson is still the only one that seems to have all 3 aspects of passing, sniping and kicking.

Simpson's kicking is often too long, more accurate than Care, but not great.

There was a lot of debate between Youngs and Care fans about who should make it in to the team, so a lot of scrutiny was placed on both unnecessarily. Ironically one of the things that stuck against Youngs was a supposed poor boot, when in fact that is one of Care's weakest areas.

It'd be interesting to see Simpson ahead of the likes of Care, he is very exciting and certainly one of the best scrum-halves we have.

To have a consistent brilliant scrum-half would be wonderful, I thought Care had finally found that form last year in 6 nations but he slowly lost it again. Youngs is not much better.

Problem is when either those two have a good day they are leagues above any other choice we've got. Frustrating as hell.

Glossing over the unwarranted, underhand and frankly borderline libellous attack on Davey Wilson, this is on the money re: the real problem with Ben Youngs. Kicking schmicking, his pass is appalling, I don't see how he can ever be a truly world-class scrum-half with a pass like that.

TBH Youngs has a bit of an armchair ride most of the time, both for Leicester and England, and its easy to look good when you have lots of time and good ball (bit like Myler at NH), I'm not sure how good he'd look if things aren't going to plan

That is exactly what impressed me about Robson last season, even with Glaws' pack, he still managed to look as though he often had time on the ball, gave good service for the most part, and put in good kicks.

Well hopefully Farrell won't be back in the squad for the foreseeable future either. Maybe people will start liking us?

The thing with Youngs' kicking was that while he has always been a better kicker than Care, he used the boot a lot more and often, to my mind, when it wasn't appropriate.

Also, his box kicks have hardly been great. Got better for sure but still below the standard we should expect from a multiple cap test player.

Agree that Robson seems to be the only established 'complete' scrum half we have.
