[2014 TRC] Australia v South Africa in Perth (06/09/2014)

Havana was sent off because the ref didn't like the way jean de villiers spoke to him. He got away with a lot last season but he needs to be careful not to develop a reputation of trying to influence the refs . It was however an unfair decision.

I didn't think what JDV was that disrespectful. If Clancy thought JDV was talking too much then he should have warned or penalised him. Taking it out on Habana is just poor reffing.

Clancey already had his hand in his pocket before he went to the linesman who suggested he go upstairs and THEN JDV had his say about being the same type of tackle as he been subjected to earlier.....he is the skipper and entitled to speak to the ref and he made no difference to the outcome!

Clancey just did not want to change his mind from his original, wrong, decision!

Result aside, the Wallabies really did play some absolutely terrible rugby in the second half... our kicking game was just awful at times, and as awesome as Folau is with the ball in hand, he's an ordinary kicker. Our forwards remain a problem and were again just completely outplayed.

Boks looked brilliant at times, and their tactical kicking was generally brilliant, but they over used it tonight... with their forwards I can't work out why they don't hang on to the ball more - if they did, they'd have almost certainly won.

South Africa are MUCH worse than last year. Coaching staff have very few ideas, resorting to veteran 2007 players. SA have no shape to their game, very little strategy, and just hope to physically dominate their opponents. The ABs are going to destroy SA, and Australia have a very good opportunity to win in SA. SA are no-hopers for the World Cup, unless they are able to re-capture the form, and continue the tactical development that occurred in 2013. Steyn and Le Roux were poor at 10 and 15 today. International wing play has changed immeasurably over the last ten years. Unfortunately SA coaches hav'nt realised this. The SA wings need to look for opportunities and positions on the field in a much more pro-active way. They are capable players, but are not properly coached. Sad to see quite talented players playing such ad-hoc rugby, with no overall strategic or tactical awareness relating to their opponents.

First half SA tactical kicking poor ! Second half SA tactical kicking better, but they use it too much, and don't understand when to kick and when to move the ball through the hands. There is a lack of field awareness, or confidence in being able to retain and recycle the ball.

Nah I don't think that had much to do with it. Clancy seemed to have made his mind up that it should be a yellow, even before JdV said anything to him. The only reason it went up for review was because the touch judge came in as Clancy was getting the card out. Obviously Clancy was still convinced, for some odd reason, that it should be a yellow.

it's true the Boks have been quite dire lately...they looked on top of the world from about the last EOYT til Test 2 vs Wales. It's like that match against Wales broke their spirit, and that same vulnerability manifested again in the Pumas series. Only saw the second half to this one, and they looked dominant but couldn't quite capitalize the way they had during the recent aforementioned stretch. It's the same Boks, but with less confidence.
Things looked sooooo easy just some time ago, remember how they smashed Scotland in MF, took care of the World XV like it was an afternoon amusement, crushed Wales in Test 1. Again, demolished Scotland at home...

They kicked it out a few times, but when there was a kicking battle, the boks generally won them. You're right, they over used it and they also kicked way too many bombs - which generally didn't come off because the Wallabies have this bloke named Folau who kinda rocks at taking high kicks.

A last minute try to come from behind and win a game....now where have I seen Australia do that before?

Have to hand it to the Ozzies, they never give up. Balls of steel for the conversion.

Well, atleast the ref gave you a reason to blame the loss on... SA had a nice phase on defense resulting in Bismarck winning a turnover... then SA relaxed they thought they had the game won... up untill that point banana has been on the bench for 6min... SA was fine... then AUS turned up the intensity and SA turned theirs down... so why blame the yellowcard for the loss? SA must learn to play for 80min, that is why they lost the game

Yeah, you know it's bull**** when Martin and Kearns are calling it ridiculous in spite of it benefiting the Wallabies
Yes..and this in his 100th game!! Talking about spoiling a special occasion, stupid ref!!

Yeah but Wooollabies dominated much of the game, if you look at the statistics the majority of them are positives for AUS: the Springboks made more tackles. Australia lost two magnificent opportunities: The Kuridrani's run that should have ended in a try (they were only 3 points) and obstruction of Rob Simmons that overturned another try, we are talking about 10 points vanished childishly, maybe 14. Boks stayed in the game due to the effectiveness of Morne Steyn (They made only a try), certainly I think that Australia had more variants and deserved to win the game. SA should be very concerned, Australia has a great opportunity in Newlands.

The YC was an absolute crock of shiite.

Yup, and we conceded 13 points while he was off. The referees are just not up to scratch. Pathetic decision that ended up costing us the game. I dont know why this has to keep happening to us. Why cant an Australian or New Zealander get a yellow for something like that? Why always us. :( that decision in the AB vs ARG game though, wow.

Awesome result Aussie, really special result.
Saffers do not like going behind, they don't cope with it well because it happens so rarely to them. Their super powered forward pack provides an intensity that no other pack can match, and it's a rare day they are ever behind. However, on those rare days their rugby can go really strange as they struggle in the top two inches to get parity.
Pressure rugby from Aussie from the get go saw the Boks struggle in the first half in a way that you rarely see.
Very impressive performance by Aussie. I am gob smacked.
Big points for them in the RC and the world rankings.

Think we were watching a different match!!

Yeah he ran over with hand in pocket and touchy was quick to step in, I get the feeling he knew it wasn't a yellow. ref have to admit when they get it wrong and accept it.

The Boks certainly won the tactical kicking aspect of the game, pretty much all of Aussies kicks went in the wrong spot or had no chasers, SA used the corner kicking super effective and cut down the angle for Folau to return the ball on, yet he continually put Aus under pressure by only taking 4-5m and leaving them defending by there own 22. Almost like he didn't have a clue on anything else to do, maybe kick long and chase?

True they must learn to play with 14 men and defend, but they should never have been in the situation in the first place.
