[2014 Mid-Year Tests] New Zealand vs England (3rd Test)

I know, he's always "at the right place at the right time". I understand opportunism is a quality for a winger, but in Ashton's case it's just comical. And is anyone at all a fan of his rooster dive ? I thought England fans loved it earlier, but apparently not..

When he ran the length of the pitch and scored against Australia it look quite cool. It's the way he does it every single time he can that makes him look like an arrogant arse.

Once it was a quirk, now it's a cliche I guess.

I'm still waiting for him to drop it to be honest, it has to happen one day...

Yeah, I don't think it's arrogance, I just think it's stupid - he's happy he's scored, he's not rubbing someone's face in it like George North/Delon Armitage.

Celebrate after the ball's down, not before.

Must disagree. North did it once in a fit of exuberance. Ashton does it all the time. It's a considered act.

It's a relatively minor sin though.

I agree it's not arrogance - well not offensively arrogant anyway... but swallow diving when scoring a last minute consolation try in a losing game?
It's just completely inappropriate.

What annoys me more is when certain commentators refer to the celebration in question as "ash the splash"... which is one of the most grammatically retarded things I have ever heard uttered by a human being.

And i stand by those comments, just because he went back to league that doesn't somehow change my opinion or make me wrong - Sarries are on record saying they wanted him to stay, he's the one who wants to leave, so nothing really changes.

I have a feeling Tomkins would have been a better 12 than a 13, but if Tomkins stayed in union I maintain he would be back in the England camp.

but do we really want another Tomkins dicussion?

If you want to blow your own trumpet, then you also have to take it when you're wrong. I think you're being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn, when it's clear to most people on here that Tomkins was never going to get selected for England again after November. Even Joel could see that, otherwise he would have stayed at Sarries.

No, I don't want to get into the whole Tomkins debate again, but glad to see the back of him.

And let's just see how Burns does after this game and after a season at Leicester before we bow to your superior knowledge.;) Burns was very good in one half in the first test v NZ, but it does not mean he has cemented the second fly half spot in the WC squad yet.

Tomkins return to RL is good for RL. Sarries should of pinched the other one!

Looking forward to Ashton returning feeding off Eastmond lines. I called for it before the second test.

I agree with whoever posted May was dropped for Yarde, not Ashton. Ashton can bounce off Savea as much as Savea will do it to him. We won't see Him running into his own players or putting ourselves under pressure on the 5 metre line.

Should of gone with 6/2 split as our forwards are only 60 minute men at best minus a couple.

Can't help feel that the abs will run away with this one as the bench feels a bit 'meh'.

it's pretty hilarious when you think about it this way :D
"woah shiit, I got the pass, I'm gonna score, I'm gonna score !! YEAAAAAAAAAHHHH !!! SWANDIVE motherfukkers !!!!!!!!!!!" - err dude, we...we still lost the game...you know that right ??

If you want to blow your own trumpet,

Am i blowing my own trumpet? Or was i making a joke about it all? I thought the smiley would give it away.

People seem very precious about this though.

then you also have to take it when you're wrong.

When i'm wrong i'll say, i'm wrong - but the Tomkins debate is a debate about preference not right or wrong. I rate him you don't, move on - none of you know he'll not get back in the England set up, he was before and there is nothing to say he wouldn't have been again other than some internet pundits.

You are assuming that, you don't know that.

No, I don't want to get into the whole Tomkins debate again,

Yet here we are... in a thread that is nothing to do with Tomkins discussing him because you brought him up. :)

but glad to see the back of him.

cool!

I haven't said he has, i'd imagine that will still be FORD.

My whole point about Burns was a light hearted joke because everyone doubted the selection so much, as they are here.

That's all, not one up manship so don't take it that way.

I agree it's not arrogance - well not offensively arrogant anyway... but swallow diving when scoring a last minute consolation try in a losing game?

I don't think he did anything any other winger around the world does, he just slid in low.

GN10 - you have a habit of making these bold statements about players and when people show you up for it, you become very defensive and anal or pretend it's all a joke.

I don't know, to me it's always given off an air of arrogance, as if he think every try he scores deserves the kind of celebration most guys would save for match winning or incredibly good tries. Meh.

Say what?

Whatever happens in the 3rd test I am glad to see England back and performing well.
World Rugby needs another powerhouse, making the WC next year that more enticing

What bold statements have I made about any player, and additionally how have I then been shown up?

I said that i thought Tomkins was better than he was credited with, and demonstrated that with Video evidence of things that had caught my eye about him, and you're the one who brought Tomkins up trying to make a point about how i'm wrong because he went back to league.

I said Burns form was irrelevant as the season ended 5 weeks prior and being out of the Gloucester Environment might actually help him.

I'm now saying why i think Ashton will go ok.

None of these are bold statements, they are just opinions - i don't have to agree with you and you don't have to agree with me. It'd be a pretty boring forum if one person just made a comment and everyone else just went "Yup"

I'm honestly not really sure what's gotten your goat here mate, it was clearly something said in jest, i'm not sure why you are choosing to have a bit of a launch into me.

Nah... It was just a really brass dive.

Lol!

I agree, it's just downright boring for France to be up there all by themselves in Europe, and I'm glad to see teams like England rise back up again. We let them lead in Paris last Feb. just for fun, but then decided to win after all at the last second, you know, we needed a win to start the year off. And then we let Ireland win in Paris because we'd rather they got the ***le than England and butchered that last try as an honorary move. Now that's class. Plus we're fans of BOD in France so...
The Boks are pretty good though these days, but the Blacks need to push on the acceleration a little bit.
