[2013 TRC] South Africa vs. New Zealand in Johannesburg (05/10/2013)

man what a game, looked like an aussie rules game a lot of the time with players spread out everywhere

I felt with the score ~ 15-14 just before half time the ABs were going to win then that Messam try on the hooter sealed it. I felt for the boks to win they needed a good lead in the first half as the AB's bench and fitness would win the 2nd half

Ben Smith was Ben Smith, Boks seemed like they started to give up on the high ball when he was around. And what do you know he now has the record for tri nations/championship trys in one season with 8, 10 test trys all up this season. He did get wrong footed a couple times against habanna, that does not mean hes slow as someone suggested. He kept pace habanna a couple times early the one time they started a run from similar orientations Ben actually looked a bit faster.

Anyone still doubting me after i said he should be up for IRB player of the year after like the 1st or 2nd test this year? :p

Retalick and Messam had huge games
Read was pretty special
Savea really good again
Conrad smith also really good
Barrett was pretty special off the bench, as I predicted pre game his performance was critical, when he comes on in the 2nd half he becomes the fastest player on the park, one bad tackle but he more than made up for that, scored a try and saved another, generally really good direction and energy. IMO hes clearly elevated himself above Cruden but hes also made himself an ideal impact/2nd half player. You may think that try he saved was a freak thing but Barrett has actually done similar things a few times already in his short career.

Nonu very so-so some ok running but some bad work on defense, real lack of urgency and effort in the leadup to two of the springbok trys. did kinda make up for it with one very good tackle on the line saved a try.

I've been one of Ben Franks biggest supporters, but that was just stupid i cant support that and he may be having a bit of a break from test rugby now. Not because of a ban he wont get a ban it was nothing. But that yellow card let the boks back in at a time the door was all but closed. He did play well when he came back on but the damage was done and you could tell Hansen was not happy about it. Im gutted for franks but he only has himself to blame.

forgot to mention, absolutely critical was the AB's defense of the maul and lineout drive. That in itself basically won the match.

Yep the turning point for me was that try before half time that sealed the game and made the boks play a bit of catch up. Then they brought their reserves on to early. Especially in Bismarks case. The SA reserves were not upto the mark that for me was the really major difference.

Maybe with the Franks thing it could work out good maybe they will take a young prop for a run on the EOYT...... I still think our props are average. We need to unearth another Olo Brown or Carl Hayman. None of the current crop are anywhere near that league.

Swinging arm from Franks the only real WTF moment.

Yeah - you'd expect something like that from Nonu. ;)

a fkn weirdo if you ask me...good riddance.

I miss the weirdo. :( At least I wasn't the only one. Now it's just me and boy, do I stick out like a giant, weird thumb. Heh...now I'm betting everyone wished they had voted ratsapprentice as best newcomer. ;)

Best match I have seen in years. A lot of credit must go to Nigel Owens, who I thought had a superb game!

Haven't you had your fill saying that joke yet?

well the point of the joke is to be as thick as possible. There is no actual humor there, the humor is in how terrible the humor is....sorry I had to spell it out, you're so thick Draggs.....sooo thick...I can't even believe...the thickness.

QUOTE PLANET RUGBY ARTICLE....

"Smith's score saw him become the record marksman for a season in the Rugby Championship and old Tri-Nations format, moving above Habana and Christian Cullen" I guess in a few extra games so maybe its not as impressive as the other two.

Im really suprised by that poll on planet rugby. I mean come on Read was good but not 5 times better than the next guy on the field. Also De Villiers third and Ben Smith way down the list. That poll is a crock.

You... You stole my 8,000th post...

lol I'm actually sincerely sorry you had to waste on that !!! :p

P.S.: I'd just like to totally brag a bit about France.
Ahem: looking back at last summer, besides the 30-0 I'd say in retrospect France's tour of NZ seriously really wasn't bad at all...I'll repeat that a large handful of sides would beat France Test 2 side with the form we were on then, but besides that...in view of this tournament here and what they managed to do to all 3 TRC teams away or at home, we seriously limited the demolition, and handled them pretty well.

What a game..!

First off: Congrats to all NZ supporters here, you guys thoroughly deserve the win and championship.

To all my fellow countrymen: Guys, look at last year, look at how we started this year (****ty). We are getting better, step by step. We're definitely no.2 in the world right now and I predict we are going to enter an era where the Bokke and the Blacks will fight tooth and nail for that no.1 spot.

Back to the game, nail-biting stuff (literally have no nails left, my biltong supply only lasted the first half). Bar the last 20 minutes of the game that was one of best and most exciting games I've seen yet.

Just got home from a long 12 hour day at work, had to listen to the game on my phone. Some yelling and cussing that my co-workers have learnt to ignore. Great game and so happy that it wasn't reduced to what happened at Eden Park. South Africa are going to be even better next year, but hopefully so will the AB's. Now I have 5 minutes left before I get to watch the game.

When was Duane Vermeulen stretchered off? As he played very well i thought. I feel once Bismark him and Habana went off it changed the game quite a bit.

If something happened tonight is that the Boks showed to ABs that they are on the same level and can beat them.
Cheers

Thats old news brother. The Boks were tipped to win this game, the Boks were the favourites. After the Eden Park game there was suppose to be revenge after it was believed the reff was responsible for the ABs win. However what happened??..

I shouldn't have betted against Black on this game. Expensive and frustrating loss for me.

Just before halftime (39th minute) Alberts was stretchered off. Not sure about Vermeulen, though.

Yeah it must of been Alberts as Duane is still there after half time... not sure if he completed the match or was replaced though.

Not on the NZ TAB mate. I took the ABs @ 1.75 and -2.5.
