[2013 TRC] South Africa vs. New Zealand in Johannesburg (05/10/2013)

What a game. Read was excellent and I thought messam was impressive. Le roux and Ben smiths lack of pace was shown tonight. Barretts tackle was brilliant though.
i thought fitness and better hands were the difference in the end.
i can't see anyone beating that all blacks team anytime soon.

As an ABs fan I am stoked with that win.
Especially after some of the arrogant comments from some Bok supporters on here claiming that they would have won at Eden park if they hadn't received the card against Bismark. Ridiculous comments especially when you consider the boks were down at the time of the card.

But I digress... Fantastic game today by two very good teams

Every supporter is going to back their team 200%. All sides are guilty of it, but the result stands and one must focus on the future rather than 'last match/last week/last year'.
Read is phenomenal, a leader in every regards except for the lack of '(C)' next to his name, but does it even matter once things get going? Not sure what the hell Keven 'Dane Coles' Mealamu was doing with the lineout 5m out Etzebeth knicked.

That was a spectacular game, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Although I have a slight bone to pick with Barrett, he robbed us of an epic 20 minutes at the end, the git :p

If something happened tonight is that the Boks showed to ABs that they are on the same level and can beat them.

Habana had two tries in 20 minutes against ABs! His injury was a low sensitive for the Boks, with him on the field they could have won. Boks made a great game, ABs can't be calm in the near future.

Cheers

A great match and a fair result and showcase for rugby as a sport. NZ deserve this and showed today. SA ever improving but we got shown up here in a number of areas. Still a long way to go. Accuracy in execution and that mental edge NZ has over us was the difference.

Just saying as my late and lamented mate, Yoe, would say……………………………………

I really miss that li'l fella. He was sooo...sooo...

French.

Swinging arm from Franks the only real WTF moment.

Was a shame that, aswell as being totally brainless it was really the only time that things got dirty. Which given the past games involving the team was very pleasing to see.

Some of the best rugby I've seen all year, pretty much every player was up for it great stuff. Read is probably the best player in the world right now.

Really enjoyable game to watch. Didn't had the chance to follow most of the games this year but this one was wow.
Happy to see NZ win it. Both teams had the opportunity to win it by the AB's were the better team today

What a match!!!!

There IS some talent in that Springbok back-line, and they are going to be VERY difficult to knock over next year, and come the 2015 World Cup.

What the hell was that about Cole being left out of the team sheet? Whoever made that mistake is probably feeling like a complete idiot atm. Hope nothing else comes of it.

Probably a typo by Suzie, the [strike]waitress[/strike] secretary!

Apparently, it was correct in the match programme.

Well this comment wont be popular but what the hell...

How do you come to that conclusion?
If the tables were turned would you be applauding the All Blacks if they had lost to South Africa at Eden Park a few weeks back given that SA were down to 14 men for much of the 2nd half?

Was it an entertaining game yes it was, edge of the seat stuff.
Are the South Africans a good team yes they are.
Can they beat the All Blacks yes they can but not playing those tactics, in my opinion they moved out of their comfort zone in terms of play style, tried to play the All Blacks at their strengths and consequently were ground down.
So to who ever came up with that game plan well done you made for one exciting game but you overlooked the fact that all the AB's needed was a bonus point and that game plan was the one to give it to them.

I totally agree with you and we were almost all thinking that prior t the game. The thing though is that the situation was what it was and we had to decide whether to go for the win or go for broke adn try for the ***le. I think most of us in SA are happy that we backeed ourselves to go all the way. A little too early perhaps but thats how you learna nd grow. So the 'predictable' happened and we played the ABs at their own game and lost but it would have been difficult to swallow a 'hollow' win if we knew we weren't after the bigger honors.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo......who was Man of the Match?

Me too IF it had to be given to a member of the winning side but for me JDV!!

Best game of rugby I've seen in a long long time.
Only thing that would've improved it would've been if Le Roux had got that try a few minutes before the end, to set up a real nail biter of a finish.

All Blacks and Springboks will whitewash their EOYTs if they play anywhere near this level.

Well done Kiwis. By far the better team.

Top class rugby from both sides and excellent refereeing as well.

But NZ deserve to be No. 1 in the world. Just a whole different level.

I think this post pretty much sums it up!

Fantastic game (by both sides), but the ABs are simply a level up on the rest of the world right now (have been for a few years now) and this just reaffirms that.

Good on SA for having a crack but I think it played into the ABs strengths in the end.

Onwards and upwards for this AB team as I think they have got more improvements to come - bring on the NH!!

now now Olyy, have faith in the old continent my friend !!

But I'd like to pay homage to the All-Blacks.
We all know they're the best team, no.1 on IRB rankings but also in our consciousnesses (uhh...that sounds horrible: "consciousnesses").

But two sweeps in a row of the tournament, and so far their unbeaten streak in the whole of TRC, that's impressive, even for a no.1 team.
They looked amazing today, and easily could have succumbed to S.A.'s defensive efforts at home, and it took perfect execution and great creativity to get through. In stead of finding difficulties, they actually managed an (easy) try with 14 men. They countered the Bok mauls well......in short, they played well even for their AB's standards.

My utter and sincere respect to the All-Blacks this tournament. Sometimes a team is better than all the rest, and they win a tournament, but many things can be said about them in terms of flaws.
The All-Blacks shone even by AB standards. They were fantastic, and for sure a real pleasure to watch. So fluid, one step ahead of everyone. No one really actually came close, in retrospect...
