2013 Junior World Championship

New Zealand's purple patch in the 15 minutes after half time was the difference.

I'm not one for lauding moral victories but Ireland can be very proud of their efforts today. Steve Crosbie (fantastic distribution) and Tom Farrell (powerful linebreaker and nice offloading game) look like a couple of excellent prospects in the backs. Up front, loosehead duo Peter Dooley and Edward Byrne are classy players. John Donnan has shown up really well after an indifferent 6 Nations. Niall Scannell had a very decent game as did Josh van der Flier. Add in Adam Byrne (who didn't have his best game), Darren Sweetnam (a gifted athlete who can be moulded into a very good rugby player) and Luke McGrath and this look like a much stronger age group than it was given credit for before the 6 Nations began.

I only got the second half for various reasons. The fightback was brilliant and I'm delighted that this group of players have proved me so wrong. Is it enough for us to get through? They really deserve it.

Of course all of this success is down to Vinny Hamond who went to and coaches my school.

We and Ireland are on equal points. Our points difference is slightly better than theirs (thanks America) and I'm presuming points difference is used for tie breakers, so Ireland's hope lies in France beating South Africa with no bonus points.

Damn the USA anyway, why do they have to be so crap?

You must be happy with Donnan today Peat? Great work in the air from him and there were no problems in the scrum.

Ugh! What a crappy game! Our bench players got a chance to play, and didn't perform. Happy with the win, with Cheslin Kolbe the stand out player.

How did Sweetman do Snoop? A great athlete as you say gifted in GAA and soccer too but chose Munster thankfully. Can see him get bench time for us in Rabo next year he's still learning the game also

Mixed bag. He's good with the ball in his hands but like the man he replaced (Adam Byrne) seemed to be caught out positionally. Good coaching should sort it out. Luckily he has one of the best in Simon Mannix lol

I didn't think so at all!
French put up a great fight, and they had the edge in the set piece specifically the scrum (and our terrible line-out throwing), a few wayward kicks really let them down, 1,2,8,15 were standouts for me.

Cheslin Kolbe was fantastic, made one try and scored another, as well as making ground whenever he got the ball (usually lots) and a few clever kicks.

Luckily he's academy so Douggie will be doing few sessions with the backs there and yea that's what I expected he has talent but is very raw due to GAA his positional sense is that of a Junior player and he wasn't with AIL club all underage so he is playing catch up a bit but still for Ireland it's an impressive result in ways and Ruddock improves his rep in my eyes. Surprised he isn't in a higher role somewhere

Going forward he looks a class act. He is a lovely balanced runner and always looks to pass the ball. He'll go far in the game although next season Munster have a glut of back 3 players so Sweetnam might have to wait another season.

It would be an understatement to say Adam Byrne didn't live up to the hype. I know he only played in 2 games but the irony is he was the most hyped Irish played but he performed the worst of the lot.

Tom Farrell was the biggest surprise for me. He oozes class and came in a little under the radar. The Byrne twins lived up to their hype. They made a big impact today.

He was never expected to be ready regardless. He's in year 2 now of 3 in academy and is very raw he will need full 3 years of intense academy coaching mixed with some Rabo and B&I cup

Did you see his tries against Fiji?

What's impressed me most with Ireland is the consistently superb scrum across all three games. Despite many changes in the front row, to say each player dominated their opponent would be an understatement. The technique of each prop was impressive considering their size.

Im wandering has any changes been made to coaching with a greater emphasis on scrummaging props ever since the Ireland scrummaging problem?

Speaking of scrummaging does anyone know why Kyle Sinckler is not in the England U20 JWC squad is he too old even though he played in the 6 nations?
