2013 Junior World Championship

So the semi-finals are:

New Zealand v England
South Africa v Wales
Firstly I love Welsh rugby and half my family tree lives and thrives there, but I can't help but think playing Wales will be a marginally easier game than a very organised English side. That said as a matter of interest how are the pools decided, it's a huge regret that I've only followed this tournament over the last two years but technically I would like to know the details in terms of positioning in pools. Also does anyone have highlights/the whole match of Wales vs Argentina.
Cheers.

Speaking of scrummaging does anyone know why Kyle Sinckler is not in the England U20 JWC squad is he too old even though he played in the 6 nations?

Injured. Sinckler's injured, Mark Jennings is injured, George Ford deemed above this level, Nathan Fowles for some reason unrated. Those four players would make for a very substantial boost to the team we have out. Bonus marks if the coaches played LCD at loosehead, his current strongest position, and one of the better hookers at hooker.

Damn the USA anyway, why do they have to be so crap?

You must be happy with Donnan today Peat? Great work in the air from him and there were no problems in the scrum.

Yes, and Taylor too when not giving away stupid penalties. I'm also very interested in the idea we'd somehow get Shanahan, call me puzzled as hell if Leinster did nip in in front of us there.

This is really boring sifplay.
Robert-Jean-Luc-Daniel-du-Preez-KC-1st-XV-2011_image_lowres-300x199.jpg

Former Springbok scrumhalf Robert du Preez’s sons, 18-year-old Robert junior and 16-year-old twins Daniel and Jean-Luc

Daniel stands at 1.94m and weighs 96kg while Jean-Luc is 1.93m tall and 100kg heavy. Robert steps in at 1.84m and 85kg.

Robert is 19 now, and 190cm. I would imagine the twins are a bit bigger now as well.

Yeah I posted their ages and weight when the photo was taken. But these lads of today is getting and bigger its becoming scary. Question now is if Robert will stay at Sharks or move on since competing with Lambie which is also still young. Don't want to see talent wasted on a bench.

Our scrum was pathetic. If this is the future front rowers of SA rugby we are in deep crap

He will compete at any province, Sharks or not.
If Robert can develop perhaps at inside centre he will get time, with Bosman leaving and Steyn unpredictable.
I can see WP sniffing around for a standoff, although they do have Timo Swiel.

Bummer to see the USA results poor, really shows the difference between Tier 1 pro countries and Tier 2 amateur sides. USA going up against sides who are pretty much pro or academy players. USA made up of mostly college players who have only played a few years. In addition, a lot of the players from last year's run aged out and there is a new coaching staff who hasn't had quite the same resources available as last years.

If the last three years are an indicator Tim Swiel will move to the Blue Bulls if he continues to show promise and WP will bring in someone.. like Butch James for 'experience' but the fact that James hasn't played at the Bulls and has no further future there counts against him so I'm not sure who we are going for.

Swiel is a 15 and we need one that can kick. We have vas Aswegen and the Bulls Craven week 10. Heard a rumour that Bulls signed du Preez was probably false. Sharks are having a clear out by looks of it so expect a lot of Freestaters coming in once Venter takes full charge. Swiel did not want to play for the u/20 cause its our designated 2nd team. If things do not work out for him in SA with national selection at senior level he wants to keep his England option open cause he has English heritage.

I am hoping than Brendan wants to use Natal players. It was shocking how we overlooked Stander and Kleinhans for a few Kitties. With Joe Pietersen heading back to France, Swiel should have a good shot at the fullback shirt. I could see du Preez getting time during the CC along with Zeilinga.

Swiel will have competition at 15 with Appels and Cheslin Kolbe. I give you one guess who will be third choice at fullback at WP.

Ah yeah forgot about Kolbe. With van den Heever possibly heading north, Aplon can chill on the wing for a bit more. Where is de Allende best off, centre or wing?

Seems odd to switch Scholes and Sweetnam now.

edit: Considering how good Ireland have been this tournament, and how close they came to a semi-final place, there has to be a real 'what if' about what would have happened with Olding and Henshaw...

Sweetnam has only played wing. I guess they wanted to give Wooton a go and Scholes is a key player, look forward to seeing how he gets on at 15.

Definite what if and if Daly hadn't been injured though I don't think he'd have made too much difference.

Well they have to give every player a start iirc, tournament regs. Coulda swore Sweetnam has come on at full-back for Ireland U20s at least, I know Scholes hasn't played there despite it being his position moving through the ranks... I'm curious to see how he gets on too. Peter Nelson is showing potential but little more, and the possibility of an Ireland dictum to play Payne at 13 plays on my mind from time to time. Even if Payne doesn't get moved, I'd rather fight Nelson for a place than Gilroy and Allen.

He might of in the 6N not in this tournament anyway I think.

Agree especially sice for me at least I think Nelson is soneone you never feel entirely comfortable with at the back. I think it'll really suit Scholes as he likes to pop up all over the place and has good playmaking skills.

Scholes was a fullback in school so it should go smoothly for him.
