Wales vs England - 13/08/2011 - RWC Warm Up

Austin Healy said that Henson starting is the best thing that could happen for England :p

Have to say, I'd rather Henson than Williams or Davies...
It's just a shame that neither Hape nor Tindall are really fast or flairy enough to expose any rustiness in Hensons game - they'll just run at him, and Henson's a solid defender, so that won't trouble him

shton still only "probable" for tomorrow, if he's out then Banahan will start with Armitage bench
Don't mind Armitage bench, but I really really really would want Sharples to start
I know that the England management are going to have Banahan involved - I've come to terms with that as bad as it is, but I really would start Sharples, just to see if he's got what it takes/is better than Banahan (which he is....)
Then again, Armitage seems to be getting back to his 09 form, so it's going to be between Armitage and Sharples, so I guess they're just giving Armitage more game time as he's more experienced right off the bat

Meh Austin Healy is a tosser so I discredit anything he says, especially if it has anything to do with Wales.

i think wales could have a strong backs division if they line it up like this
15. hook
14.north
13.roberts
12.henson for his kicking
11.williams
10.jones or priestland
9.peel

O Yay, so having complained last week about England selecting the slowest wing pair in history, we might well see a repeat of that in so-called experimental season. :)

Flood is is without a doubt a better attacking player when on form, but Wilkinson's cool head kept England in it last week.
So we have Wales v England, South Africa v Australia, and France v Ireland tomorrow- don't think I'll get much done.

I agree with Austin Healey there, Hape and Tindall won't trouble many defenders in attack but also will both do a job in defense, Henson against the Barbarians struggled against Rabeni and Bastareaud in defense and attack though so I'm not sure if Henson's still a solid defender, I don't think anyobdy really knows how good Henson is know to be honest, but somehow I just can't picture Hape and Tindall being as dynamic however as Rabeni and Bastareaud, shame for England's point of view that Tuilagi's not playing, I think he would have given Henson a lot of trouble, I hope the selectors would have selected him if this was a 6 Nations match and not a rotation warm up friendly, but then again maybe its best for England that they keep Tuilagi their secret that they can unleash as a surprise against New Zealand/South Africa/Australia in the World Cup, like when Jamie Roberts was a surprise to South Africa in 2009

Really? Scoring tries certainly helps. Standing beneath the posts and being able to remember the stench of defeat from before doesn't.
Absolutely. Free flowing rugby such as the extreme example of last years NZ/Aus show piece in Hong Kong will not win either team a WC, and they both know it. Tight games of tight margins, nervousness, tension and concern are the emotions they will feel. The teams which can control that and play smart rugby, taking poiints as they can - this will win the WC. History has told us this.

I watched the highlights of this game on YouTube the other day. Loving England's new kit. Might have to get me a replica lol.
Great to see some islander blood in that backline. It got me thinking, with all these P.I.s plying their trade over in Europe now, their children will no doubt grow up & want to play for their adopted nations so we'll be seeing more and more popping up in the 6 Nation teams. How exciting!

Ashton is out of the squad... Banahan Starts, Armitage on the bench

It really is amazing that England have a winger taller than every player in the Ireland squad.

Sky's build up is so cheesy.

Foden gets his fair share of tries, but....yeah, pretty much :(
Good job we have Haskell on the bench, he tends to do pretty well vs Wales in the try stakes

yeah, if the pack can get him 9/10 of the way Haskell can always flop over the line.

the only other option would be to get stevens on the field, hope wales forget how to scrummage and go for some penalty tries
