Wales vs England - 13/08/2011 - RWC Warm Up

I agree Cuetos a class act, and its not like he gets chances and doesnt finish them. Hes a pretty good finisher too. And on Robshaw, hes given Robshaw plenty of a chance, he's kept him around the entire pre season, Wood needs a start, Easter needs a start and Fourie is a specialist 7, and if Moody doesnt go we may need one in the squad. Haskell is on the bench (as are alot of other front line players) in case it goes ***s up. Shame for Robshaw, Monye, Payne and PDJ though who have all been sent home apparently.

The problem is that he isn't getting these chances, hence his poor international record in the recent. Ashton gets his chances and takes his tries as he spends 80 minutes tracking and hunting for tries. Cueto is doing other stuff; supporting play and making his breaks at the rear of the pitch (it seems to me). Not that this is a critisism, but is this his job, or the job of the full back?

Uuuum... :/ The fact that he only has 1 cap contradicts that entirely. He has been form flanker in England for the last 3 seasons (if you don't agree, look at the tackle/carry stats). Yet he's never really got any chances (feel free to prove me wrong, but there's a big fat 1 next to that list of caps). Robshaw's excelled at saxon level, consitently being one of their best players. He's excelled in all the club matches that could be considered close to test match quality (For example Munster where he earned MoM). Yet for some reason Martin Johnson is unconvinced. On the bright side, he's at home for quins all season :) (so it's not all bad I guess)

Exactly the same could be said for Jordan Crane! I think it goes to show stats dont say everything, Im not saying he doesnt deserve more chances in general, I meant specifically to get in the world cup squad, which is what I thought i was responding to.

Interesting point
Maybe him and Foden share the role of fullback?
Foden often does crop up in attack, perhaps the England management have realised that Cueto isn't as spritely as he once was and get Foden involved more in the setplays than him because of that

Agree completely on Robshaw - he hasn't been given a chance at all, and definitely deserves one, 100% - Englands loss, Harlequins gain, I guess

But Jordan Crane excels for the saxons and leads the stats whenever he plays, he set the record for most number of Gatorade man of the match awards for the Aviva Prem, and thats based purely on stats.

Well I think I'm will hang myself
before i watch his match most useless and boring backline ever (except from foden and ashton and mabye wiggy)

10 Flood :kicks way to much for my liking 11 Cueto: Has rarely scored tries 12 Hape: Blurggh Shoukd be nowhere near an england shirt and dont get me started i mean he is super slow watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kI6nv-8Hlk 13 Tindall: Good defender terrible attacker

Its really not that bad. Quite frankly when flood hasn't played our attacking game has struggled. Even when wilko is on 'form' its still only form by the standards of his own game, and wilko doesn't get the backline going quite the same as flood can.

Loool yeah, he really does deserve a go in the england sqaud and had I been commenting when the training squad was announced I would of been moaning about the fact Waldrom got in ahead of Crane despite being second choice at club level. Tis just I was referring uniquely to Robshaw's case in my first comment cos he's supposedly still in the squad :).

15. James Hook (Why is he playing there?! Not a good enough tackle, inexperienced there and his creativity is wasted. I'd rather Roberts start at 15)
14. George North
13. Jamie Roberts (Rather him at fullback with Jonathan Davies here)
12. Gavin Henson (Needs game time but not sure whether him or Scott Williams should start)
11. Shane Williams (Rather for him to be rested (can't risk injury), but if Henson is **** we need someone creative in the backline, so can understand this decision)
10. Rhys Priestland (Played well last week but he should be at fullback if Hook is playing)
9. Mike Phillips (Gatland you *******! Knoyle should be head and shoulders above him (with Lloyd Williams or Peel on the bench))
1. Paul James
2. Lloyd Burns (Finally dropped Bennett. Had a decent game last week but glad we're trying someone else; would rather Owens though (Probably a bit biased:p))
3. Craig Mitchell (Torn here. Adam Jones should start to get a better chance of a win but Mitchell should start to improve depth; not that he's a bad player or anything)
4. Luke Charteris (Did a stupid thing last week, but I think he's a decent player. Rather Bradley Davies but I guess we need depth at lock. Ryan Jones might have been a better idea however)
5. Alun Wyn Jones
6. Dan Lydiate
7. Sam Warburton
8. Toby Faletau (Not sure about him or Delve again, although releasing Delve is a joke)

Stories coming out of the Wales camp this evening .... Matthew Rees is in serious doubt of even making the World Cup because the neck injury requires surgery.

can i ask what the **** is the point in playing cueto again? he's not exactly got anything to prove, has he?

no place for sharples in the 22 after 10 mins last weekend... clearly, he's not travelling. not much point in him being in the 22. Same for Joe Simpson - why put Care on the bench?

And Corbisiero at 1 again, with Stevens on the bench?

It makes me wonder, what is the point in having the likes of Sharples, Simpson and Wilson in the squad if they're not going to get any proper game time? They might as well be back in preseason with their clubs... makes me think it was a whole PR exercise to make the media/ opposition think England might actually be interested in some new guys...

To be fair, Stevens is way way better than Wilson - Wilson got time last week as well - very good chance he'll tour, especially with Sheridan still injured
Agree with the rest though

On Matthew Rees - Is Gatland poised to make a shock call up in the form of Sale's Marc Jones? :p

yeh, not arguing for wilson's inclusion, just for sensible distribution of gametime...

Gatland will take Bennett :(

No good to risk that sort of injury whatever the circumstances. What type of neck injury does he have exactly?

Not said, but they are saying he is in a bit of a pain so could be quite serious.

Yeah, I wouldn't risk him playing at the RWC or in the warm-up. Sad as it is and heartbreaking for the player, you have to think of what's important right now and your own health and loved ones always come first.
