The Ukraine War thread

Also calling it an act of "terrorism". Amazing how utterly shameless and transparent the Russian government is with their lies. Bombing civilians? Totally fine. Destroying a key weak point in a logistics route? Terrorism.

I do wonder just how many Russians buy the nonsense, probably more than you'd hope given the tendency of lots of people to blindly follow what some in authority say when it's an emotionally charged issue.
I don't know about numbers, but it's not just Russians who buy the bullshit.

If you want to waste time down that rabbit hole, have a look on this thread on an unrelated forum, specifically, 1 single (Western, but not sure where) poster for the last week and a half:

Tbh if this was Britain it would already be a 10 year repair job.
*sucks teeth*

ahh, mate, that's a big job. between gettin' material from the builder's yard these days and site access, your looking at 20 years. I'll see what we can do, but that'd likely be what your looking at.

What it looks like now .
Took about 45 days last time. They'll probably have that fixed in under 20 this time.

Can't imagine the heavy lifting gear went too far away.

If Ukraine could take out one of the buttresses, then there'd be real long-term trouble. Unfortunately, only getting a section out isn't quite the same.

Will take your word for that. I'm guessing the spans were built to order and not just lying about. Think 20 days might be a bit quick

According to the Russian deputy PM that part of the bridge is out permanently

Looks like I'm very wrong and it's more complex than the first time around judging by that next post!

I shall definitely not screenshot this for future use...
Depending who you ask its either a treasured rarity or a confusion as to why you'd even bother - sure that clown* is almost always wrong.

*that clown being me for avoidance of doubt

I see the yanks have cleared the Viper for sale/transfer to Ukraine.

Will definitely help them having a platform for dropping/launching long-range western guided weapons.

Although the main issue at the minute seems to be minefields.

I gather cluster bombs are pretty useless against mines - likely just adding more unexploded ordinance to the ground. Have they tried fuel-air-bombs? Would be sufficient over-pressure would it not?

There are several ways to clear mines but as an ex Sapper I'm not aware of any air delivered system that can do it. You either use systems like Python along with mine ploughs but this is very loud and obvious, or you do a deliberate breach at night the old fashioned way by crawling on you belly with a metal prodder but that takes time. When you are on the offensive there are not quick wins with mines unfortunately.

Prigozhin's plane crashed, but it's not clear at this moment if he was on board o_O
