The Official Sonny Bill Williams Thread

Notice how SBW flinches and runs back as his opponent throws a punch. What a hard guy.

Funny thing is how many here would happily step into a ring and get their faced punched in? Not many. People are over critical once again here, people hype him up calling him the next Ali and stuff, its not his fault. Been fortunate enough to have spent some time within the last couple of weeks of one of SBW team-mates at Canterbury and even there they believe the criticism is unfair.

Funny its the same guys here that are the ones constantly having a dig at him.

Funny how the same guys in the NH, have a go at Cipriani or Henson, while other will die by them. It must be strange seeing it from the other side of the ditch. I don't think anyone here is saying SBW is a bad person, it's just Mundine's comments were silly and unfounded, and the NZ press shoves SBW hype down everyones throats. Most people think SBW has been treated to a different standard than other boxers, and they place that on SBW rather than the real culprit that is the NZRU.

He has potential to do well on the domestic scene if he fully commits to boxing. Considering the time he's been doing boxing and the time he's been training boxing, he's doing alright.

People knocking his opponents need to get real. Even your favorite boxer fought bums in his first several fights, it's totally normal to start off with easy beats.

The difference there being that most top banana boxers looked good when they started out against the bottom rung fighters.

SBW is a fairly tough rugby player who's pretending to box. Let's not pretend he'll ever win any world championships. At his size that puts him up against the likes of Haye, the Klitctchkos & Chisora. In reality, Ricky Hatton (who barely is half the size of of SBW and hardly ring fit these days) would smash him all over the place. That's the difference between a cardio fit athlete (going up against part-time fatties) and a top quality fighter.

That's because most of them have had amateur careers or have trained long in the sport to be sharp for professional boxing. You don't understand, no one looks good with the amount of time SBW has had in boxing. You need to put in the time to be good at the sport, that's something Sonny hasn't done. Simple.

Who's saying he'll win a World ***le? I don't think he's that conceited that he thinks he can win one. SBW just likes to dab in the sport, because he enjoys it, nothing wrong with that. And please don't exaggerate, Hatton would be lucky to even survive the fight. There's too big a height, weight and reach difference.

********. Any trained boxer worth their salt knows exactly how and where to his someone and make them go down regardless of size and weight, especially if they're not conditioned to take it. As you say yourself, SBW like to dabble in the sport - Has he been hit properly or even thrown a decent punch yet? No, he hasn't.

Hatton would get on the inside on SBW and that would be it!

There's a huge power and durability difference when there are big weight differences. There's a reason why there are weight divisions. Don't joke around with this one.

I'm not. By that logioc, you're telling me that Sonny Bill would have a chance in a fight against George St. Pierre or Matt Serra just because he's a big lad.

Hatton would get on the inside on SBW and that would be it!
haha Hatton isn't the type of fighter to be able to make up the gap in reach difference. He'd be walking into punches all night.

Cruiserweight MMA fighters, both giving away around 5 stone to SBW on the scales. Both would have him beat in under a minute also.
