The Movie Thread

Not a film that I've just recently seen.. although, yeah there is a film I've just seen but let me explain;

I saw, may years ago now, a film I remember as being called 'Nosferatu' where a US film crew go on location in Transylvania to film a vampire movie only with the lead to be an actual vampire. I recently ordered what I thought was this movie but as it turns out the one I just saw, 'Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens' is perhaps even better and from what I can gather older. I'll certainly keep it but would still like to order the one I saw a few years back. Can anybody give me a full ***le and/or date/producer/director, hell any info that might help?

Both come highly recommended (by me for what its worth :p) though the old one can seem to... drag on a bit IMO unnecessarily in the late middle part of the movie. Still, a very atmospheric film with some classic moments and enjoyable even viewed out of the context of it's time if you ask me.

I think the one you mean is Shadow of the vampire starring John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe among other. I totally agree that it was great fun to watch. I attached a link.

I saw The Man With The Iron Fists last night. Very entertaining! If you like Asian Kung Fu with Tarantino gore and gorgeous Chinese babes then you shouldn't go far wrong with this one.

Seen quite a few since my last report, a few this week were actually pretty decent.
Robot and Frank: Enjoyed this one, I've seen so many thrillers lately, it was nice to watch a film with a simple but entertaining premise. Good performance from Frank Langella, as always. I think the ending might have disappointed many people, but I thought it tied the film up well, with something to reflect upon. Obv won't go into it to risk spoilers. 7/10

All good things: I am beginning to think that Ryan Gosling doesn't act, just stares blankly around in roles that allow it. In that respect, he did a good job here. I thought the film took a while to get going, but upon reflection it made sense, to kind of build up the later events with hints here and there. 6/10

Saw The Worlds End. Much better than I thought it would be, not to say I thought it would be bad, certainly a worthy part of the Cornetto Trilogy

Ah, thank you! I would +1 but it seems you are the last person I +1'ed. I'll come back if I remember.

oh that's alright, don't worry. +1 this message here and then you can give some to whoever you want. I won't even ask who.

John Malkovich is insane, and he speaks fluent French. But I think these things are distinct and unrelated. I think Dafoe is unhealthy too, at some degree.

Nosferatu, eine... is considered by many to be the second real horror film of all time (first is The Cabinet of Dr Caligari). Great historical film.

My 4000th post I have Max Shrek's shadow. What a happy coincidence. Hmm, will have to consider what to post on my 5000th.

One of my favorites ever, Murnau was a fantastic mind. Faust was pretty great too by him.

I've had this poster in my room for years now :p

an honorable feat. Much better than yet another post about how powerful the Springboks are...

I watched Mama last night. It's a ghost story. It has a good premise but the script didn't quite get as much out of the idea as you'd like. The one big plus was the cool heroine who plays bass guitar in a punk rock band. She's really likable which means you care what happens to her character, something that makes of breaks most horror movies.

The one worst aspects was the ghost, who was this badly drawn C.G.I. cartoon which just got worse the more light the director shone onto it. You could imagine the producer telling the CGI company that he wanted the ghost out of The Grudge with the odd idea nicked from a M.R. Jame's short story The Dairies of Mr Poyter, but he must have been gutted at what he actually got. I think Guillemo Del Toro was the Exec Producer. I expect better from him to be honest. I'm starting to wonder why, because his remake of Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark was terrible

Random Addendum (its pretty random): I'm off to see Thor 2 tonight. Is it any good? Actually don't tell me cos I've already bought the tickets. I'm gonna get some ice cream out of it anyway. Beepbeep.

Heard some good shyt about it...we saw Insidious 2 last week, totally sucked...first one was a fantastic horror for a PG-13.

Anyone can give me opinions about "The Conjuring" too ?

Sinister gave me a good few scares but the hype it's getting is probably enhanced due to it being of the better mainstream horrors. A casual movie goer wouldn't waste time looking through endless lists of what good horrors are out there. Even so, it scared me good and was a fun watch. I was holding my gf throughout instead of the other way round lol but then again I'm a big pussy when it comes to horrors even though their my fav genre. I watched insidious 2 tonight and agree it wasn't great. Although the ending makes u wonder what's going to happen in the 3rd.
