I've just watched The Dictator by Charlie Chaplin. I saw it years ago as a kid. I tell you what it was shot in 1940, there's no CG's, not fancy stuff, but it's a f***ing masterpiece.
Great movie.[/b]

Doesnt Chaplin just go around kicking people in the arse?
[/b][/quote]

Nah, he is Hitler and he sends jews in concentration camps. A bit more serious as you can see.

Well yeah. Just a bit

The Untouchables.

One of the best gangster flicks. Very classy; great gunfights and characters. True story aswell, which is interesting. 10/10.

Miracle.

About the USA Ice Hockey team's win at Lake Placid. One of the great sporting films.[/b]

And along with Friday Night Lights. About a Texan High School American Football team who without their star player get to the state finals. Watch it and I swear you will be supporting them in the game.

Great film. 8/10

Just watched District 9... Finally.

Never seen anything like it before. It's one of a kind. Movie of the year, and best Alien movie ever made as far as i'm concerned.

Just watch 'Penelope' which is a darkish oddball fairytale / Rom com and was actually supprised at how well it was done,, very funny.

Also just seen 'The Zombie Diaries' which was excellent. It's 3 short films shot during the stages of a Zombie plague, ( Start / full infestation / End ) in the UK.. Very well done, shot either as Amateur footage or on the fly news.

As you can see, the missus and I like a very odd mix of films!

For the last 2 days because I'm a bum and jobless I've watched Next Friday, Yes Man, Not Another Teenage Movie, Hancock, Fantastic Four, Twilight and a whole heap of bow cheeka wow wow.

Requiem for a Dream - 9/10. Very dark, depressing and bleak. The ending is phenomenal, driving to the conclusion of the fates of the four protagonists in a rush of powerful music and startling visuals. Couldn't help but cry a couple of times.

The Ugly - 9/10 Excellent Kiwi psychological horror flick, is anything you seen actually real?

Ok saw 2 movies the past few days.

District 9 was on Sunday, and it is without a doubt the best movie of the year, I honestly don't think I've seen anything this good or will see anything this good in quite some time, get's a 10/10 from me.

Then went to see GI Joe on Tuesday.....
:/

I don't even know where to start with this one, the effects were brilliant and as a movie to help fill up 2 hours of your life it's entertaining I guess, but it was pretty damn terrible to be honest, the acting was so wrong on so many levels, I felt like slapping the main character every time he opened his mouth, he was just -that- bad :/

Everything was just too corny and ridiculous, I know it's based on the Marvel GI Joe comics, but it seriously had me fighting just to care what was going on at any which moment. Complete fluff 5/10.

 Dude, what were you expecting ? It has CRAP written all over it, you don't even need to see the movie to know that.

Hey, I'm not above enjoying a fun movie even if it's nowhere near Oscar winning material, I just wasn't expecting it to be -that- bad.

Taken. 8/10. Surprisingly good. I actually cared about the characters, and Liam Neeson's no bullshit attitude is what this kind of movie needs.

my mate wanted to go to the cinema last night. He said District 9 was on. And I thought... aliens... sci-fi... boring. But what the hell, I'll go see it.

So I did. And it was amazing. Never seen anything quite like it.

At the beginning I thought it was taking loads out of Tsotsi, especially with Zola popping up on the soundtrack. But it's basically a Tsotsi/ Blood Diamond/ Animorphs fusion, which is one of the strangest fusions ever, which made for an amazing film.

It was funny. Box ticked.
It wasn't in american english. Box ticked.
It had blood and guts and gore. Box ticked.
It had a good ending. Box ticked.
It asked political & philosophical questions. Box ticked.
It had a coherent plot. Box ticked.
When it mattered, it was realistic. Box ticked.

I can't ask for more. The first film with aliens, besides Star Wars, that I've ever enjoyed.
10/10.

Also saw District 9. Pretty good movie, but not nearly as good as I expected it to be. SPOILERS:

The protagonist was a selfish ass so I couldn't give a crap for his fate so during the opening hour or so, where I was supposed to be feeling sorry for him, I was very much bored.

The very long action sequence at the end redeemed it greatly. Very gory and good fun to watch. Some nice cinematography on the mothership aswell. The effect it made from being switched on was awesome to watch, as Johannesberg's building's windows shattered from the sound.

8/10.

He's meant to be, something about seeing the situation from the other side of the equation comes to mind.

Knowing - wish I could forget, another stinker from Nicky Cage

Wolf Creek - not sure if I liked this one or not, will give it another screening before making a call. Some seriously good acting on display off set by some atrocious "horror decision making" and a few too many lucky coincidences.
