[RWC2023] France vs Uruguay (14/09/2023)

The bunker system is really backfiring so far.

Question: if a red is given can the bunker system downgrade to a yellow?

The tackled player doesn't drop his height at all. Why do the commentators keep saying that?

The tackled player stays the same height when he gets shouldered to the head ffs.

This World Cup has been a joke so far in regards to head contact. It's only going to push more and more people away from rugby.

Also, and FTR, I'm not seeing any conspiracy in the disallowed try.
Any identical situation with different teams really ought to be disallowed.
Offside player takes a defender out, try is scored through that gap, that should disallowed 90 times out of 100 (with the other 10 being human error)

There was for me no mitigation to take that down from a red. In theory I quite like the bunker system but it offers TMOs the opportunity to weasel out of the correct decision. The approach almost seems to be "I need to see something on top of what the ref has seen in the pitch to upgrade" when that's absolutely not in the spirit of the system.

my theory is a ref more likely to give a yellow so they don't have the pressure to make a clear decision and leave it to the bunker instead.

I could pretend i'm shocked, but after watching Nigel say on WR's youtube channel that the TMO found no evidence of head contact in Jesse Kriels' tackle and therefore the decision to play-on was reasonable, well, let's just say it's gonna take a LOT to surprise me. The bar is a tad high i'm afraid.
