[RWC2023] England vs Argentina (09/09/2023)

Watching that again red again as a neutral and listening to Lawrence speak… no. He didn't stand his ground, he is still specifically moving in closer to tackle him and he didn't drop his height at all to get a lower hit on the jumper. Unfortunately that's just a clear red in the current head clash laws. Pundits talking rubbish. Again, generic points here about what needs to be done to make sure this sport continues in the future and doesn't get sued into oblivion for not protecting their players.

Anyway, Ford is taking his teammates by the scruff of their necks and dragging them ahead single-handedly. English attack isn't looking great, but Argentina as a whole is just looking disheveled and a mess. Cheika needs to pull an Alex Ferguson, otherwise the momentum stays with England and Ford breaks Jannie de Beer's most drop goals in a World Cup game record.

Side note, are we going to have to put up with this terrible protect this house ad for seven weeks? I really don't think I can do it? Please bring back stories about wings being slow to turn.

Argentina are going to have their moments in this game so we need to keep trying to move the scoreboard in our favour and not sitting back

Was Curry 100% clear line of sight? On one replay angle I thought there was a second where there was an Argentina player slightly ahead of him who then got out of the way- I'm sure Curry had to move slightly left and then when he did he arrived at the precise time the ball catcher landed.

The laws on paper i can see why it's red- but for me anyone who has played the game can see how there are some accidental instances of collision and I think there was slight interferences with line of sight and therefor enough for us to understand there is zero malice.

Stamp out high tackles, taking out in the air, shoulder charging at players who are hovering over a ruck.

But being ready to tackle someone who is landing after catching a kick chase? We have to be careful what we wish for because if we referee like this we will give kicking teams an enormous advantage with high ball tactics.

Does the psychology of a red card game (football or rugby) ever get boring?

I have England heavy favourites here unless Cheika puts Sanchez on at the start of the half to bring some sanity to it.

England got lucky there, multiple knock ons in that ruck

I am no ref but personally I'm happy with the red for England. But I would make throwing my hip bone in the head of a defenceless kicker a red all day long even if first contact isn't with the head. I think the Argentine offence was so wreckless it would merit a longer suspension out of the two.

Argentina have been absolutely useless. Just terrible in just about every facet of play!

Did Argentina have many warm up games. They look really dreadful at the moment.

And that's taking nothing away from Englands performance, but they seem weirdly out of sorts.
