[RWC2019][Semi-Final 2] Wales vs. South Africa (27/10/2019)

Easy to say in hindsight. Amos is a class player who was a standout vs some of the best sides in the world not too long ago. Ok he had a poor game v Uruguay, but he's a much, much better player than that.

I really like Lane as well, hoping to see him at centre long term, but he had less experience due to persistent injuries so I can understand Gatland's choice at the time.

Well I did say it at the time about Lane but I wasn't on this forum until last week. But yeah, sometimes covering multiple positions ticks those boxes a limited squad calls for and I believe Amos does.

I'm starting to think about shaking up the backs after a pretty dismal showing against France. I'd probably go 15. Halfpenny 14. Williams 13. Davies 12. Watkin 11. Adams... and I'd even consider giving Patchell the first 55/60 and bringing Tomos and Biggs on to finish things.

Thats not far off what I suggested a few pages back.
I put pence on the wing and tomos to start SH. But other than that I agree. We need to shake it up now

Could Owen Lane possibly go straight in to the 15? Pointless calling him up if he wont get near the matchday 23....

I'd imagine that will depend if JD2 is fit or not. If not, I'd imagine Lane will probably be in the 23.

Garces the ref, Barnes and O'Keeffe touchies and everybody's favourite Skeen as the TMO

Well it's been a good tournament. Unfortunately that's us done. We have won 1 out of the last 10 games with him as referee.

How can they allow him to ref us after that pool game? Let's all sing it together

Heeeeads, shoulders knees and toes on the ground
Heeeeads shoulders knees and no panalty!
Scrums going down and siiiide entries there
But Gaaaaarces doesn't ****ing care!

4 wins out of 14 games (8 of them consecutively), with the first being none other than Brighton 2015.

Why not give us Owens and let Garces blow the other game? Why? - Whoops forgot he is Welsh. Damn the referee pickings are slim. What happened?

Would have rather had Angus Gardner...

It's quite logical really and always the most likely outcome. He's the only 'true neutral' ref of note. Add in Barnes is likely to get the final, Peyper ruled himself out for the rest of the tournament by being a bit foolish wouldn't be allowed to ref this match, Owens cants ref the match. You really start to run out of candidates fast.

Yeah I guess that's just the state of play at the moment. I know it's hard for refs these days but we have a very long history with refs from France. I will still never forgive Poite for the Bismark incident!

If the saffa's want to just give up and give the Welsh a bye to the final, I'll be cool with that.

It's such a shame how having the ref for a game is as much talked about as team selection
They do have such an influence on the outcome for all the wrong reasons.
To be fair, Wales ain't really had a good game with French refs recently. Especially as most of our team doesn't stop whinging at them.

I recall in the Fiji game when he gave the pen try Biggar was walking back to the half way line with Garces having a right old strop. I'd say he's gonna go with SA most of this game.
