RWC: Australia - Ireland (17-09-2011 20:30)

As if Ireland can be raving about themselves. They just slowed our ball down all game and got lucky scrum penalties. We didn't play well at all, and what the hell were they thinking not taking the 3 points with 2 minutes to go, that is absolutely stupid.

Congrats to Ireland with all those maul turnovers. Brilliant stuff. But in their next game if they try to slow the ball down like that they will get hammered in the penalty count. And they wont be able to win on penalties...

Wasn't as if the Aussies were angels at the breakdown, ref let them get away with plenty of scullduggery at the ruck! Strangest one was Quade Cooper trotting back onside, then going to pick up the ball by going into the side while still on the irish side of the offside line... only response from Lawrence was a scrum to Ireland because Cooper fumbled it.
EDIT: Come to think of it, Horwill did pretty much the same when the Irish were looking dangerous in attack, so don't try and make out only the Irish did it!

Though in all honestly, as a Welsh fan, if Wales do manage to get through this pool (and that is a very big if that imo will probably be settled tomorrow) I'd be much happier facing the Irish than the Aussies in the quarters...

Disagree, Irish scrum was clearly dominant.

No way. That overweight dude on Kepu's side stuck his head straight into the ground 2 scrums in a row and got the bloody penalty. And it happened multiple times.

How can people say the scrum was lucky, Irelands props dominated and Kefu was tearing Ross down constanty and well I surprised no card was issued.

Your scrum knowledge is Australian.

Your scrum clearly struggled and that 'dude' is a shitload better than Kepu.

Ireland's scrum was definitely dominant - however Healey did infringe a few times (dropping his bind, mainly) but the Lawrence already had it into his head that only Aus could infringe at the scrum so just gave the pens to Ireland
90% of them were correct, but a few weren't

Right. Really bad refeering at scrum. But don't forget, this win didn't change anything Italy will oust Ireland with a simple win.

Understandably so. I think any of the 6 Nations countries would prefer to play each other in the last 8 rather than a Tri Nations team.

I just got back from the game. Was a great atmosphere with the irish supporters really getting into it. I'm a kiwi through and through but it's always good to see aussies lose and there is some irish down my mum's family line. may not have been the top aussie side but it was still pretty close to it and don't forgot ireland had some injuries as well. a very famous victory for the irish and I was happy to witness for myself at the ground.

Sorry that is bullsh*t, every time Ireland got a shove on (and fair play they were very good at getting the secondary shove in, no matter who's feed it was) both Kepu and the other fella couldn't deal with it and collapsed.

im sorry but where is all this hate for ireland italy game from???

and i think for italy its far form a simple win for them to beat ireland
we are a better team

Some of the penalties were unlucky for the convicts.

Some - most - were spot on.

And if you're complaining about the ref, you weren't good enough, and thats the end of it.

Agreed that the Italy game is a hard task.

Do you work in stand-up comedy. If not I'd look into it if I were you, you say some funny things.

Can I ask an honest question: how many scrum experts on here really know what's going on in the scrum? If you've a weak scrum, you blame the opposition for boring in, if you've a strong scrum, you blame the opposition for dropping their bind. IMO the powerful scrum is the better scrum and should be rewarded. I know nothing beyond that.

Unless that ref is Wayne Barnes ;)

Fine, i'll upload a video of the scrums during the week for a second look.

If Australia finishes 2nd, that will mean we only see 1 Tri Nations team in the final...

I never blame the ref. I'm just saying Ireland will get killed in the penalty count in their next important game (ie: if they try harassing the halfback against NZ/SA/ENG).
