RWC: Australia - Ireland (17-09-2011 20:30)

Aus go on about missing players. Ireland lost Wallace and Flannery who would've been in 22.
Aus are well up to speed as they near end of their season while we are at start of ours.
Had players lacking match fitness, Kearney still hasn't played a full game in over a year, D'Arcy and BOD still aren't right, Sean O'Brien and Ferris could breakdown with injury at any time as they are carrying knocks so it's not as if we'd have a smooth ride either.

Apart from it being a world cup group stage and Ireland have won their toughest games.

Oussie will finish 2nd and then get hammered by the boks or NZ before the final.

Yeah, actiually that means quite a lot.

lol

Ireland were at full strength against a weak Australia side. I fail to see the ''lol'' in that. This is why no one likes home nations supporters, you win one game and gloat for about ten years. England won the World Cup in 2003 but you still hear about it. Ireland won the Grand Slam in 2009, yay, but didn't they just lose four games in a game and come third in the Six Nations? I'd prefer to actually win those than pull off a fluke win against a weakened Australian team.

They were missing Pocock from the pack. And that's it.

Fail.

Bullshit they beat Australia in almost every aspect of the game...they weren't pretty but they bossed them ..plain and simple.

FFS its been like what.. half an hour since the win??? I'm pretty sure we have the right to celebrate considering the odds that were stacked against us!

Lol get a grip would ya!

I see there no mention of Ireland's weakened teams in the warm up games. Reddan and Sexton started their first game together today, why do you think that was? I'll tell you why. Declan Kidney was focusing on this game and used the warm up games as WARM UPS.

a) Ireland didn't have a full team and well if you look at team that won the Grand Slam (starting Welsh game) and started today - you had POC, DOC, Heaslip, Ferris, D'Arcy, BOD, Bowe and Kearney. That is 8 players which is just over half.
And if Aus are going to be cocky as reported in press conferences and be a self proclaimed and IRB ranked top 2 team in the world the they should be able to loose 2/3 players and still be able to defeat a team ranked 8th in the World.

Wonderful win for Ireland, the atmosphere at the fanzone was fantastic too!

I do think it's a bit of a shame that people are choosing to ***** about the referee here rather than praise the winning team, sure maybe he wasn't perfect but it's just part of the game and people need to get over it. It seems as if every ref has had a shite game so far in this RWC according to you guys.

Also what's up with all the French posters with a chip on their shoulders??? Is it so hard to appreciate an upset (yes it is an upset by the way) when it's another team?

Anyway the likely SA v Aus quarter in Wellington will be immense, I think SA would have to be strong favourites in that game. I must admit the AB's v France game coming next weekend is making me a little more edgy now, we should be good enough to win comfortably, but previous form just means nothing in this tournament.

In fairness. No Pocock or Moore and having to play that O'Connor guy because of Ioane being out, that's pretty much a second string Australia team <_<.

Ireland were lucky enough too, seeing as they diddn't have the Wallace guy around so we could also be without our first choice 7 and 3 or 4 players that are borderline fit....

That was close enough to full strength for Australia. There are no excuses, Ireland got their tactics right on the day. But I don't know how successful those tactics will be in their future games.

Stephen Moore?

Fail.

They could replace him with a 6 year old girl and see improvement. Bigging up Oussie front row players make any judgement about their pack an irrelevance.

As usual, Oussie are bigged up because of association with New Zealand (without ever doing a single thing of significance for the past decade) and like to chuck the pill around as if they're playing mungoball.

Put a big ugly pack in front of them and they're nowt more then shrinking violets. Ireland are the better team. By 15 points to 6.

Pocock was obviously missed, but I didn't hear any Aus supporters saying anything about the AB's not having Read and Kaino in the Tri nations decider.. Ireland were better on the day, that's all there is to it.

I was at the game, Ireland had the crowd omg the crowd was 60% Irish, I sat next to NZ on either side of me and they went for Ireland also. Ireland also had something to prove to Australia and the world and they had more experience at RWC. Ireland did deserve the win, dont get me wrong, however Aus did have 50-50 calls on the scrums, yes our scrum was not as good but Aus getting penalties on there own feed is kind of stupid. Then we had 3 starting players missing, 2 the day before. No try was scored only penalties and a drop goal.

Good luck to Ireland in the competition, but I dont see Ireland winning it, I still see Aus with a very good shot in winning the ***le, they now can pull there heads out and get injured players back, we could easily beat SA in quarter finals and then semi onwards its anyone's game. NZ might lose to France this week, then it could be a Aus vs NZ final still... this is a world cup, anything can happen.

If Australia can't find a way to win when missing a few good players they simply don't deserve the world cup.
