RWC: Australia - Ireland (17-09-2011 20:30)

I'd say something if Ireland were against the ropes all day and hanging on but realistically how can Aussies argue when after the 24th minute they were kept scoreless and well they never really looked, with the exception of 1 passage, like hurting us and if you were a complete outsider that knew nothing about rugby you'd think it was Ireland that were the more technically gifted team.

If you are to win the world cup like Australia want then you habe too:
- Cope with injuries
- Keep the scoreboard ticking over and not be easily shut out for 6o mins like that

This game is plainly a simple case of that old rugby cliche, "the best team won on the day". It's obvious, but it's true.

The team that turned up with more intensity, passion, desperation and guts won. Argue semantics all day, but that's how it plays out one way or another.

How disapointed I was to see Tommy Bowe get absolutely ran down (from at least 15m away) by O'Connor at the end, but I guess it still clenched the match. From a New Zealand perspective, I'm not so happy. This means we're guarenteed to meet either Australia or South Africa in a semi-final, providing South Africa beat Samoa and Namibia and New Zealand beat France and Canada. Personally I think we should lose to France, as it seems like we'll get an easier run come the semi-finals. Still, sucks to be Australia or South Africa, who one is guarenteed to get out in the QF.

Don't worry about it at all. People thoroughly under-rate how much of an effect carrying the ball has over most of the field as opposed to running someone down without it. Bowe wasn't awesome, but he could've reversed that in the reverse situation.

Pocock was injured, Ioane and Moore. Three key players for Australia so I doubt this win really means anything. It'd be like Ireland losing O'Driscoll, Bowe and O'Brien.

Ireland lost there number 7, and there 1st choice(When fit) hooker...You need strength in depth to compete in the WC, playing big matches week in week out. It's amazing that 7 of the team started were playing when Auustralia lost to Munster(without their International players)

great win, way to bring the Australians back down to earth and all their media fanboys with them[basing that comment on an article heading I saw earlier today that this cup is Australias to lose not NZs to win,
Because of what?, They managed to beat us?

And the funny thing is, Ireland is my least favourite side after Aus because of a certain Lions tour incident including one of the Irish players, but I found myself right in behind the men in green as if they were my second team.

WINNING!!!! We'll probably lose to Russia now, ah the joys of being an Irish rugby supporter, will this make any difference to the world rankings?

I think now the main thing is the lads enjoy tonight and get the emotion out of their system because as the noted themselves the hardwork will only start now as it'll be hard to keep that level consistently and every team will fancy their chances against everyone else and every big game will simply be down to who performs on the day and wants it more

You mean the time he was picked up off the ball and thrown headfirst into the ground in an act of cowardice by two players....yes that's certainly a reason to hate him :p

Helloooooo. Hello? I'm not sure I'm here, as people are either agreeing so immensely to my previous stuff in this thread that they decide to not respond, or I'm just stating the obvious. In either case, I thought I'd just add this.

Has anyone considered that Robbie Deans has been doing an inside job for the last few years? I'm sure he'll get shown the door if they get knocked out the door by the South Africans in a quarter, but he might be quietly laughing on the inside. ;)

KIDNEY OUT! Another sub-standard performances totally dependent on the set-piece and dominance up front.

Cant believe I got up early in the morning, put €20 on an Irish win, and had to sit through that shite.

England won the World Cup in 2003 but you still hear about it.
The only people who bring it up are people who say England go on about it.

I've not heard it mentioned much (apart from by the media, who are all dicks anyway) - the fans never really talk about, only fans of OTHER teams who constantly say things like "GAAAAWWWDD ALL U DOIS TALK ABUT 2003 OMG LOLWTFBBQ!"

I don't know what to think of Deans...I mean he has a n unbelievable backline but they only threatened the Irish line on one or two occassions todey :/

There seems to be a missing link somewhere, on paper you could argue Australia have the best backs in the world and yet they looked impotent today. And today wasn't the first time either.

I like him but I think Pat Mccabe might be a bit dodgy for international standard?

No I agreed that it was foul play and it shouldn't have been left unpunished, But why I dislike the guy so much is that he carried on whining about it for months and ultimately resulted in a decent guy being subjected to ridicule, judgement and "thug" labelling, when at the end of the day, we all know, there is a bit of ugliness in the beautiful game we all love and you just take the good with the bad and move on, we keep getting told to stop whining about a certain forward pass, and you didn't see any of the All Blacks complaining even after the match, they knew that s*** happens and you move on. But the dude expected a heartfelt apology and a hand full of flowers-hospital visit

So is it just me or has the Springboks scored more tries than the Wallabies so far in this tournament??

This was an awesome game even though there were no tries, i was on the edge of my seat all the way through...

You don't like Irland because Umaga broke BOD coller bone?...you'd swear it was the other way around.
