Rugby 2012 player ratings? Players with 99

if he gets picked the allblacks have an abundance of 12's also his carrying can be off he holds the ball in one hand his game awareness isnt the best due to a league background
he may be talented but that does not make him a 99 rated player to be 99 you near enough have to be a living god in your positiion and there is really no one in the world like that

You sir, have obviously never seen a player called Dean Schofield

There should be know 85+ players from the northern hemisphere, if realism is wanted, and only the NH's star players should be over 80

Besides this I agree with Iron Mike's list

i disagree the NH teams tend to have better front rows then the SH expecially in the scrums the welsh front row in the scrum is better than any NZ,SA or wallabys front row

Not 99 Players, but maybe Star players. just like in rugby 08. Players who really are greats of their nation.

Wales - Stephen Jones / Jamie Roberts / Mike Phillips / Matthew Rees / Gethin Jenkins
New Zealand - Dan Carter / Ma'a Nonu / Mils Muliaina / Richie McCaw / Brad Thorn
Australia - Matt Giteau / Quade Cooper / Will Genia / Rocky Elsom / David Pocock
South Africa - Jaque Fourie / Bryan Habana / Morné Steyn / Bakkies Botha / Pierre Spies
Scotland - Sean Lamont / Mike Blair / John Beattie / Euan Murray
Ireland - Brian O'Driscoll / Tommy Bowe / Rob Kearny / Jamie Heaslip / David Wallace
England - Jonny Wilkinson / R Flutey / Chris Ashton / Tom Croft / Lewis Moody

those are the players i would choose from.

Also, i think each player should have a specialty or a reputation for something. this then can add in to the gameplay. can have a negative and a positive effect.

the positives can be Playmaker, Hard Tackler, Good Passer, Game Control, Place Kicker, Kicker out of Hand, Drop Goal Machine, Finisher, Hard Runner, Tackle breaker, Side Stepper, Line Out Winner, Scrummager.

the negatives can be Weak Tackler, Throws stray passes which can then be intercepted by the opposition, Injury Prone, Hot Head (likes to start or end a fight!), High Tackle reputation, Stamping.

Basically anything that can go for or against your team. think it would really add something to the game. Bakkies Botha will be a penalty machine for instance (Might be a good idea to have suspensions in the game for red cards, or even players can be cited?? thoughts?? Players like shane williams, habana, etc will be finishers, stephen jones will be a game controller, mike phillips will be a hot head, along with jimmy cowan, nonu will be a hard runner and tackler, steyn and carter and wilkinson kickers at goal, drop goals and out of hand. things like that will be great.
Players then like jamie roberts, mike phillips, morgan stoddart, jon davies, nonu, fourie, elsom and more will be strong running tackle breakers. dan biggar is known to throw a pass every game which results in an interception try for the opposition!

there shouldnt be star players because SH would have like 15 in a team; if England have 5 . And where is du Preez ??

Agree with all but Matthew Rees... In the last decade (may be a tad inaccurate) We (meaning Wales) have not had a consistent/accurate line out ever. A hookers main job (along with hooking in scrums) is to hit their men (regardless of opposition contesting), and matthew Rees (along with every other hooker in wales other than Ken Owens) never has consistency with throwing in. He's great in the loose but line out is very shaky. If a player can't do his main job, don't think he can be a "star" player. I really hope that in the coming season he can prove me and everyone else wrong tho :D :D :D

I'd put Hook over Stephen Jones right now, and Adam Jones over Matthew Rees.
Shane Williams or Leigh Halfpenny cannot be ignored either.
Also, Mike is good, but not playing at a 'star' level right now.

Agree with what you say, especially about wingers :D didn't wanna open a can of worms tho, so waited for someone else to say instead of me :D :D :D Wales and most definitely the ospreys aren't the same without Shane and Adam... if "star players" are those that can change a game, and add spark to a team then Shane Williams should definitely be one. Granted he's getting old and was quiet last season, but when your on the back foot and in need of a spark 7/10 times Shane williams will be the man to do something (whether it be the right or wrong decision) :D :D Shane Williams, Jamie Roberts and Hook without a doubt in the backs. Gethin Jenkins and Adam jones in the forwards :D i'm biased (welsh and ospreys) but its only an opinion :D

Dunno what everyone else really thinks, but withough Tommy Bowe and Marty Hollah I doubt nobody would give them a second thought.

i just put down a rough guide of players. those are my oppinions. obviously people have ther own!! also tried putting down the players that the rugby world see as star players. players who make a difference or huge names globally. in regards to hook v stephen jones, i understand that hook has more flair but he is not a cert in the line up for wales. he plays centre where he has jamie roberts, andrew bishop and jon davies to compete with. so wouldnt have him as a "star" player. or top rated player or whatever.
This whole nonsense of biassed views is just stupid and childish. if we all had biassed views, then the game will suffer. if i gave biassed views, mike phillips, certainly wouldnt be in my list, nor would tommy bowe as i am a scarlet fan and cant stand the ospreys. but i see that they are 2 global names. du preez i would have put in but janurie has played scrum half lately plus he's off to leicester, so is he going to be involved with the boks?? thats why i didnt put him in. the all blacks i could have put anyone in, but i think i chose more that people agree with ther than i did for wales!! typical!! cant please them all!!

and please, ive read a few times on the forum about gavin henson. please oh please do not put him in the game! the guy is now a human guinea pig and a strictly come dancing queen. he had great talent, but seems to have thrown it away. big shame.

richie mccaw = 92 best flank in the world
dan carter = 94 best fly half in the world
ma'a nonu = 82 good at busting the line , but got no kicking game , and lack tackles experience
fourie du preez = 87 best half back in the world
pierre spies = 84 fast ,strong but is he good enough at the breakdowns
schalk burger = 89 one of the best flanker in this world solid defence
victor matfield = 86 best second row in the world
Sonny bill williams = 84 still learning needs more experience
thierry dusautoir = 83 good player and leader

shane williams = 82 fast got some stepps but thats it
hosea gear = 83 fast ,strong ,watch the maoris vs england game yu will know
matt giteau = 87 best austrailan firsts since larkham , cooper on the rise tho

What do you mean by no tackle experience for Nonu? havn't you noticed that he been making nearly all his tackle going around the legs, and his distribution skills are very good...he don't need a kicking game 85+ rating.

Well, it is always preferable to have a twelve who can vary the game and a solid kicking game would do just that. I always feel that Nonu could be slightly nullified if he were to comeup against an equally physical midfielder like Jamie Roberts or Basta. He's undoubtedly a very talented player who has worked very hard to improve his game, but he is still a teencey bit one dimensional.

He actually has a massive boot on him, when hes just messing around at practice he slaughters it. I remember reading an article a couple years ago where they revealed that he had the second biggest punt in the All Blacks squad behind Carter. When you think about it though, he doesnt need to kick, they asked him why he didnt more often and he said that he is very rarely in a situation where he has to. If he is in the situation where he has enough time and space to kick it, he may aswell just run it as hes a devastating runner.
The All Blacks tend to set up their kicking options at 9-10 instead of 10-12, if the All Blacks really need to get a kick away, it will be done before he gets his hands on it.

This whole deal about him being one dimensional is a bit of a myth too. Everyone seems to think that hes just a hard running battering ram and i cant for the life of me understand why.. Maybe its because of his appearance? seen as hes a big unit people assume that all he does is try to barge through things? He has a developed a great distribution game since adjusting to 2nd 5, but more importantly his first instinct is to try and step through the defence.
If you watch him play, he has a very distinct swagger type sidestep that he uses to try and slice between players, more often then not he steps into a little gap and offloads to Smith on the angle. Brute force is not his game at all.

Putting physical player like Jamie Roberts up against a one dimensional power player would probably nullify their attack, but it would do f-all against a player like Nonu. Like in the 08 NZ-Wales game, Nonu and Roberts were both playing 12, NZ won 29-12, Nonu scoring a try. One dimensional? not at all.

1. Everyone would agree with the rankings
