[June Tests 2018: 2nd Test] South Africa vs. England (16/06/2018)

shields starting at 6. awesome. thats his best position

Why have you not understood such a simple concept by now?
Oh sorry Rats I forgot how intelligent you are. How is it a simple concept? English players in the top 14 are not selected by Eddie Jones. Kiwi players not getting picked for NZ can play for England even though they are still contracted and playing for a kiwi team.

It stinks of hypocrisy and are we really sooo short of backrow players that we have to keep looking for mercenaries like Italy and Scotland do

Because Shields is committed to playing in England next season with Wasps. If a player currently in the Top 14 had signed a Prem contract for next season then they'd be considered as well.

I agree. Shields has English parents and next season will be playing his rugby in England. Why shouldn't he play for England?

We have the largest Union in the world and we have to rely on kiwi rejects? How will we ever beat NZ if all we do is hoover up their also ran players? Give Wales Callam Clarke and maybe they might beat us at HQ one year...

We dont rely on kiwi rejects your who point is massivly flawed. Had he not committed to playing in england then we wouldnt look him twice. We dont seek them out but if they choose to not come to england then why not.

I get we have a large union but no use in turning down an eligible player on the principle that we have a large union.

And your saying because he was raised in NZ he shouldnt be picked yet youd have no issue if he was brought up here and played here? His parents are the reason he's eligible and that he played in NZ. So if he is playing in england next season why should we wait till before the wc for him to get him maybe 1 cap, on what principle?

If he is available, eligible and commited to playing in and for england then use him!

He is playing for England because he wasn't good enough to get 10 caps for NZ that's the only reason he is playing for England

He got called up by the All Blacks but turned them down because he wanted to play for England. If he'd committed to NZ then he'd likely be starting in the current NZ side over Whitelock (with Squire 8).

He got called to train with the all blacks and turned them down, hes 27 and could have got caps. With us if he is good enough he will get caps, if he isnt he wont get used. Its not a secret that in recent years back row has been as issue for us but we now have alot of ypung talent, but why shouldnt we use an experienced player to bridge the gap and why shouldnt we use a experience super rugby captain, especially when robshaw is going down hill

funny how the rule has been going on for 8 years, and people still can't get their heads around it.....

Who is there playing in France anyway?
Ashton? Who is rumoured to be coming back.
Bendy who is 50 years old
Fearns who was coming back but decided he didn't want to fight for a spot.

For all the crap Fearns likes to sprout about Sheilds coming in at least Sheilds is coming to England to fight for a spot, fearns back out of his done deal so clearly doesn't care about England that much....

Oh Tigs my head is around it I am just not happy with bringing in a mercenary from NZ who would obviously been playing for the All Blacks if he had been selected earlier. He isn't English. Guys like Manu have been to school in England but Brad Shields has never lived here or been part of our culture he is simply a mercenary wanting to cash in on RFU money

Nathan hughes is here for payday and lifestyle. Could have played for fiji and wasnt born here so should he not play? No english parents has he? Where is the hate from him?

One of my best friends was born and bred in England, with a Kiwi mum and Aussie dad... he'd have been ******* thrilled to play for any of the three.
He may have had a preference, but make no mistake... he'd have have ******* loved it.

Of all the poaches to be upset by, Shields is an odd one.

Shields is playing for England because he doesn't make the cut with New ZEALAND. You can take all the crap ****************** all you want the motivation for him playing for England is pounds and pence
