June International Tests: South Africa vs. France (1st Test) (10/06/2017)

Marx has had a great start. It is clear AC is being made to play the same Super Rugby tactics. Jantjies able to play his natural game. France finally waken up. Good match so far.

That was just silly from the South African no 11. The overlap was huge.

Competitive and quite entertaining but not of the highest quality I don't think compared to where both teams would like to be. 16 points in a half against a French defense is pretty good going though, they are very stingy usually. A try for SA in the second half may be enough to win it. They had a couple of good first halfs in 2016 then came out in the second half and stank the joint out, so this is not over.

The french lose all their composure in the saffas' 22 and don't know how to score. Good play from South Africa, they're clumsy too but a bit less than the french and take their opportunities well.

This is more like it. Great try saving tip from Huget. Top French performer today I think.

You just can't trust Jantjies with bombs... He's got butter fingers and it's already happened against New Zealand several months ago. Unforced, that's a shame.

I don't think Skosan was interfered with all that much. A little bit tough on France, but I'm no expert.

As for Jantjies, he is what he is. A good athlete, solid at penalties and tackling and quite creative with distribution. But poor at territorial kicking and iffy under a high ball sometimes. He is definitely the best fly half in the stadium for me though.

This is what I like to see! Hopefully the Boks can keep this up when the Toulon/Clermont players are back. The rugby world misses South Africa.

Yup, I'm glad South African rugby seems to be heading in the right direction. But for a proper test, they've got to win against England or New Zealand.

It would have been interference in American Football for sure. It's not a situation that comes up much in rugby. France can have no complaints though as there was some contact.

What is clear is that Skosan burned Doulin for pace.

French players not playing what's in front of them. What's the point in using set moves if you're not watching the opposition defense? Plisson ruining a shift by passing outside to Vakatawa when there's a gap just in front of him.

Have SA found a fullback? Nice.

What is worrying for France is half these Springboks have never played together before. 3 starters only played the last game in 2016 they said. I'd expect SA to improve as the series develops.

Who will France get from Clermont and Toulon that might help?

France closed it to 16-14 and the crowd got nervous, then 21 unanswered points for South Africa. Typical Northern Hemisphere lack of killer instinct. When the Boks and Wallabies are struggling we've got to learn to crush them instead of fading out of games at the key point.

Having watched Super Rugby that wasn't any surprise to me in terms of the quality of players, but I'm surprised (and pleased) for Allistair Coetzer who had a personal nightmare last year. His call to the SARU to get a higher quality coaching team (and pay for it) has worked straight away. Personally I am fizzing because Italy's defence was shocking today at times and South Africa's was much improved on last year. Italy should never have agreed to let Brendan Ventner take on a second job when he has so much unfinished business with Italy.

Anyway, South Africa leapfrog Scotland and Wales back up to 5th in the world rankings tonight. A case of crisis, what crisis?

Great second half of rugby and it's good to see South Africa performing well again! I like Jantjies personally but he has his moments. Impressed with Coetzee at full back and another that I really like is Jesse Kriel so I was disappointed when he got subbed in the 55th-odd minute.

Add Marx to that. Def a prospect to make 2 his own.
