Very rough game so far from New Zealand. Israel Dagg has had a shocker to the point I'd be happy not to see him in an AB jersey again until he finds some real form - not just 'good enough'. Only player for New Zealand seeminly playing well is Savea and Sam Whitelock...

Ireland certainly have come out firing. Out of interest, why did only half the New Zealand anthem play? Having trumpets and then leaving the singing up to the 23 guys on the field, verse Ireland's 60,000 people singing both anthems made me think it was ganna be a rough start...

I don't want to take anything away from Ireland here, but this is a shoddy New Zealand performance. Their work at the breakdown is very, very poor - and that's not the first time this has been said this tour. Their gainline defence has been nothing to write home about. They really aren't winning this kicking battle. Their attack has been good but that is it.

Would be fun to hear Hansen now.

All of this said, Ireland have been very good indeed.



Conor Murray should kick you in the nuts. Murray aside I'm still not sure about that, but Murray is probably the Irish MotM at the moment, which is saying something in a forwards' game.

As O'Driscoll said at the start of the match, the only way Ireland can win is if the All Blacks have an off day and Ireland play to the best of their ability.

I still fully believe Ireland will lose this game, that being said the performance is very encouraging for the future of Schmidt's reign.

I am a miserable man and very happy about it. New Zealand are letting Ireland dictate the game. Their desire and application in terms of protecting the ball and defending their line is lacking. That gives Ireland the initiative, which they have taken and used incredibly well. I can't be arsed to go into all the things Ireland are doing well, people who can't see it are blind. A very good performance against a rather poor one.

edit: Not saying you're blind, just saying there's no need to say what everyone knows.

Not penalizing players who are on the ground held but keep rolling isn't doing you job. Saying 'flat' when it's blatantly forward - or knocking a ball into an opposing players back in a ruck and then saying 'knocked back by black', who unless he was trying to catch a ball with his back facing the other way - is a ridiculious call. He is being all kinds of ****.

Oh please don't insult New Zealand referees! You really know how to hurt me.

Dagg has been bad (comparing to his personal standarts) since a while now. He doesn't seem to bring that impact he had in the past years, it looks like he's slower than before, I don't know what is happening to him.

I thought Cruden and Luautua were doing a good job.

I hope this is a turn for the Ireland rugby team - credit to Schmidt so far but I think it's mainly been down to the experienced players.
