[EOYT] England vs. Argentina 09/11/13

I'm starting to lose faith in Lancaster too . Really the only unforced change he has made is Wilson in which is pretty safe although I don't think it matters which if him or cole play .

Think we need to get a coach with some balls tbh

So this is rapidly turning into an injury ravaged second team, at this rate we'll be calling up Goode (of the Andy variety).

Ashton.....I know there are injuries but for the love of god why? Wouldnt it be better to have anyone on the wing instead of him. Dan Coles quite nippy apparently.

That's probably one of the reasons Dickson retained his starting place.

Having looked at it (and calmed down somewhat) Foden didn't actually come off the bench last week, so it's entirely possible that Goode will warm it for 80 minutes. That would lessen the pain.

It's still a huge disappointment, albeit partly forced by injury. I still don't see why May couldn't have been called up or, as you said, Eastmond couldn't have been given the 23 shirt.

STEVE THOMPSON. Did you see his try for the England legends last week? it really was RUN FAT BOY RUN.....

He probably would have gassed Ashton

If by gassed you mean sat on his face and farted, yes.

I suppose this makes sense given the squad picked, but then again, Lancaster was the halfwit who thought you wanted three full-backs (inc. Alex Goode) and only three wings with no real wing/centre cover. Eastmond vaguely counts and would have been an interesting bench choice at least.

I can live with Ashton. Circumstance has conspired against us and he was the only winger left in the squad. I can live with Foden. I don't think he did badly in his last appearances there and he at least has the pace for it.

But Alex Goode, well, really... neither positionally suited to the needs of the moment, nor a genuinely classy international, nor a choice we were constrained into making. I think this is a mistake.

I am unhappy about the pack. Good luck to David Wilson, he's deserved a start and I hope he makes the most of it, particularly as he's the only really powerful carrier in the tight five. I think the praise for Billy Vunipola was somewhat overdone from last match. I think he only got going on the run twice. Most of the time the Aussies stopped him before he got too far. Which wasn't his fault really as most of the time he received the ball with two Aussies lining him up. Not much going to happen. And that's the point really, yes he's a wrecking ball, but if there's two Argentines waiting for him everytime its not going to happen. And with this team they can do that pretty safely. The best we can do is exploit the hole we make from sucking in two defenders by moving the ball to the a gap in the line.... which we know probably won't happen.

Should win, but I think it could be another disappointing performance.

Yes Peat - The observer gave him 9 out of 10 = very generous. There was one penalty we won which was solely down to his breaking of the gain-line and forcing Oz to infringe, which is always satisfying to see.

I've said it before but I still believe Morgan is as good a ball carrier as Vunipola. He's got a lower centre of gravity, slightly more agile, gets the legs going faster, and also because he's not so outrageously massive as Vunipola he's less likely to be singled out by opposition for double-manning in the tackle. I reckon Morgans stats(from when he's been in form) must be as good as Billys.

I'll try and pay more attention to the specifics of Vunipola's performance on saturday but its always harder in the pub I find!

I'm happy with either of the Flowerpot Men - both will cause carnage given a gap, both will draw in defenders if there isn't. The point was more that without the gaps there's only so much that can be done and that I don't like relying on the 8 as virtually the only carrier of consequence, because it tends to mean a shortage of gaps.

Have you been looking through my internet history?

You seen him for Wasps this season?
I'd back him to do a better job than farrell, on both kicking (from hand and at goal) and bringing his backs into the game.

At Premiership level sure, he has been much better in attack than Farrell. Against Leicester especially he was excellent. I've just never been convinced by him on an international stage.

This. New Zealand are going to kick six shades of **** out of us, after what we did to them last year. I genuinely think the only possible way might be to pack the field with the fatties and ball carriers - Vunipola's, maybe even Billy at 6 and Morgan at 8! Just bull-doze the ********!

Anyway, I despair over Goode because Elliott Daly is better in every single way. Even returning from a long injury he's in top shape. And Jeremy Guscott recently said that Goode is the most skillful full-back England have - WHAT!?

F*** New Zealand

Beats All Blacks, wins four games in 6 nations with average side, just beaten Australia after good summer tour. I can see why none of you would have faith in him. What a joke!

Ooh you swine. Don't have time to reply in detail to this BUT...

I believe our side is more average than it needs to be due to Lancaster's selection. He has done a sterling job in some respects but the inability to move our game on in some respects is very frustrating. I think he has been very lucky at times, I think he is lucky in that he is coaching during a time of weak international teams.

Lancaster says he is targeting a 2015 World Cup win. That's what we want. We want us to go back to the time of Woodward which, given our resources, should be within reach. I do not think he could do it. He gets 80pc, maybe 90pc, right, but to reach top you need to outdo the teams doing 99pc right. He looks very good at doing the bits he does and looks like he'll never do the things he doesn't. So, no, I don't really have faith in him doing the things he says he is aiming to do.
